Orbiting Planet Tortoise

Twelve other PAX gathered at Tortoises on a crisp moonlit morning to see what YHC had in store for them. Good mumble chatter as the PAX gathered and Crimson performed some sort of contortionist stretches to warm up, complete with moans and groans. With everyone ready and no FNGs, we set off for a warmup loop around the front parking lot and back to the side lot for warmups: SSH x 20 IC IW x 10 IC GM x 10 IC Sir Fazio x 10 IC Mountain Climbers x 10 IC For the featured part of the workout, we’re recognizing the 60th anniversary of the Sputnik launch (October 4, 1957). Merkins, Murph, Burpees.

Is there really more I need to say? I guess maybe that there were some LBCs and Freddie Mercuries sprinkled in, or that Large Mouth runs like an antelope out of control, or that my co-site Q Shank made the most amazing shovel flag ever (complete with hand-created camouflage), or that same said co-site Q provided the 20 PAX brave enough to post at FMJ with Gatorade and camo F3 koozies, or that Khakis did his best Grease Monkey impression by lacing up at 0530 on the nose. Tortoises Comes To A-Team

The plan this morning was to bring a Tortoises style workout to A-team. Limited running, unlimited pain. So we moseyed to the first parking lot at the front of the park and stayed there for the entire workout. Impromptu

I drive into Tortoises because Freebird, my running partner is in West Virginia and Ohio this week on a much-needed vacation. By driving in I was able to post a shovel flag for the morning event. I had not planned to Q this morning but saw Disco Duck sign-up last minute so I offered to co-Q. 6 PAX gather in the gloom including Crimson, who drove in by himself. Who knew he had a car? Pickled!

It’s hard to write the backblast for my VQ without getting somewhat reflective and sentimental, but I’ll save that for the NMS at the bottom of the post. First, here’s what went down in the Peak City gloom this morning at Tortoises. Earhart and Freebird came cruising in from their usual EC run. Various mumble chatter until go time. No FNG’s, so off we go on a little jog around the front pickle (see what I did there? [Read More]

Victory of Bed Eluded

8 pax: YHC Banjo, Bartman, Texas Ranger, Ma Bell, Enough, Ascot, WWW, Disco Duck YHC’s mind and body were exhausted following the 1776 Revolution yesterday, but even the common victory of a bed eluded me. I removed myself from the bedly comforts, body tight and sore, but not broken, ignoring the cats meow’s and the family slumber. Panic seared through my veins, remembering with a disheartened mind today’s Q at Tortoises. [Read More]

Little Bit of Running, a Lot of Work

YHC was NOT going to miss this one! After last week’s brain fart, I put a plan together OYO in my head and set the alarm early. The first one to arrive, I decided to explore a little bit. What’s this hill back here? Hmmm, Omaha! New plan. 6 more PAX showed up, including the long lost WWW. After a bit of catching up, we jogged over at 0530 to the front parking lot for some paint the lines and quick feet before circling up for: [Read More]

Burpee Beat Down at Tortoises

Disco Duck said it best, “It wouldn’t be tortoises if we weren’t doing burpees.” Five came out for a burpee beat down at Tortoises. Warmed up with side straddle hop, good mornings, windmills, merkins, mountain climbers, plank jacks. Jogged over to “the hill” where we started the burpee 11’s. Sumo squats on one end, burpees on the other. Then, some WWII’s and flutters. Next, we grabbed the cores for sets of curls, overhead press, rock rows, and merkins intermixed with lunges while we traversed the length of the parking lot. [Read More]
