Mutant Ninja Tortoises

It was an honor to lead 13 Stallions/Clydesdales for a “limited run” workout. Just one for the Mutant Mile EC, nice jog to BH and back. The Warm Up: Follow me for a fast 25 yard run to circle up in the parking lot for some typical warm up stuff including SSH, GM, Hill Billies, Sir Farzio Arm Circles/reverse to get those shoulders loose, take a break to get some gloves for Ascot. Try Not to Poop Yourself

As #RespectWeek winds down, there was one last Friday flurry of RESPECT Qs before the finale tomorrow at Phoenix. YHC had actually signed up for this Q before the concept began, so it was fate. And I knew I had to bring it, when I saw 22 pairs of eager eyes staring at me from the gloom - well, 21, ‘cause Freebird came in on 2 wheels as we were saying the Pledge of Allegiance. [Read More]

Get your kicks...

YHC was questionable Tuesday night as a chronically painful achilles tendon was joined by a strained hamstring courtesy of some lunch-time ultimate on Tuesday. To leave my fellow Tortoises without a Q on such short notice just wouldn’t do. Luckily, a night of sleeping with a heat wrap on the hammy and a handful of ibuprophen had YHC feeling much better once the alarm went off. Off to Apex for some limited running! [Read More]

The 1%

In past wars, the war effort was a national effort. The entire country got behind both world wars and in Vietnam, the draft touched families across this land in all economic groups. For the war or against the war, the war effort was front and center at family dinner tables coast to coast. That was then. For my time in the military, the 80’s, who knew that was relative “peace time” for the American military. [Read More]

Themopylae: “With it or on it...”

Spartan’s VQ. (Disclaimer: This BB was authored solely by Spartan, posted by Texas Ranger who was set to be co-Q but Spartan didn’t need me!) 12 PAX showed up for an adventure to overcome 5 grueling days full of upper body and ab related trials. Good mumble chatter and an upbeat mood as all gathered for brief warmups, and with no FNGs this morning, the PAX proceeded directly to the Hot Gates with their shields (coupons) in tow for three rounds each of: [Read More]

Bayside High School Is Awesome

I love @jeremyfoland sending out the weekly “Who’s Qing” tweet because about every 4th week or so I look and say, “Oh, I’m Qing this week.” And speaking of Hotspot, we’ll get back to him a little later. Good crowd of 21 PAX today, including 2 FNGs from out of state. The FNGs came with Grease so I knew they’d be athletes and were probably use to being in action. Gave the disclaimer and we were on our way. How quickly..

How quickly things change. Last week, Gloom temperatures were in the 70’s and humid. This morning the PAX broke out the long sleeves and sweatshirts (some of them, anyway) for temps starting with a “4.” And that’s Freedom degrees, not in some commie temperature. The Tortoises crew had made the journey north in order to partake of the 2nd/3rdF after the workout (more on this later), so go time was even more of a goat rodeo than normal at SnS. [Read More]

The Tortoise at the Bond

When: Oct 18th, 2017 QIC: Earhart The PAX: Disco Duck, Captain Kirk, Bocephus, Ascot, Term Pappy, Napster, WWW, Spartan, Texas Ranger, Crimson, Sooey, YHC Earhart A special occasion such as the breaking bread ceremony gave us an opportunity to converge the Wednesday workouts together at Bond Park. A few hundred PAX (OK I exaggerate) gathered in the gloom, some running in from Insomnia, some gathering for the normal SNS workout and some for the Vesper running. "It Didn't Look That Big When We Started"

hill·ock ˈhilək noun a small hill or mound. synonyms:mound, small hill, prominence, elevation, rise, knoll, hummock, hump, dune;bank, ridge, knob;formaleminence"the lovely green hillocks in the distance" First, credit to Denali for the #twss quote (possibly paraphrased) that became the backblast title. We wrapped up our workout on the featured hillock near the Salem Pond Park parking lot, but there was oh so much more this PAX of 12 did on the first sub-50 degree morning in several months. Wheelbarrows and Requests

8 men gathered in the gloom of Salem Park this morning with one thing on their mind: “please, Lord, just not a Murph.” Fear not, soldiers. With half the Pax fresh off the CSAUP, YHC had nothing but love, respect, and the IR on his mind. Indeed, YHC’s co-site Q finds himself on the IR (more on that in a moment). Alas, YHC “McCant” let any Pax off easy, and so into the gloom we set. [Read More]
