Q-School: Exam Day

It was a good day for a VQ, thanks to the perfect mix of humidity, heckling, helpful encouragement, and reminders from Shut-In that the things he brought up in Q school were better applied than remembered. Despite lots of “you’re starting at SNS?” questions we’re off. Mosey in the unusual direction from the flag, getting started at the ropes course parking lot. After a brief attempt to keep up appearances by suggesting that Build-a-Bear was passing the test in observing my counting woes, we found the correct combination of pauses and cadences to get going. Not enough... no problem

Filling in for the legendary @www is no easy task. Prepped the workout and all plans are in place. Until Texas Ranger posts on slack “might not be enough cinders”. When I showed up on site and ran quickly to see the cinder count, I thought I should be good with about 10 or so Pax standing around and roughly 9 min to “go time”. But… cars continued to roll in and by the time we began it was 19 solid HIMs waiting for some fun. [Read More]

Fellowship at Wolverine

The first weekday morning after i turned 49 was glorious. 18 strong filled what is left of the parking lot at the darkest of all AOs (unless it is within a week of the summer solstice). We congratulated Build a Bear and jigglypuff on their EC (after which Puff headed home), then we had a moment of silence for our brother War Child. After this sobering start to the day, we were off. The Triple Nickel Strikes Again!

The last of my official Birthday Week Q’s, and while still feeling a little tired an a little sore, I was ready to get it this morning. I just Q’d at Bond Park a few days ago and wanted to keep this a bit more fresh. With the Crazy Train coming up, and folks getting more focused on BRR training, I figured we get a little hill work in, and make it a little exciting at the same time. [Read More]

Ode to Memorial Day 2018

53 strong came out to the Memorial Day Convergence in 2018 at the Field of Dreams site. Many of of those 53 will tell you the first thing that comes to mind when they recall that workout are the battle scars they bear on their elbows left behind from one particular exercise. In the past year I’ve only seen that exercise called one other time and it wasn’t warmly received then either. [Read More]
