Heaven is a Halfpipe

This backblast is a little late coming as it is from my birthday Q on 8/20, but as you get older you tend to forget things. Any way, as most are aware it’s BRR season and another HIM suggested those of us running the BRR should be sure to take all the open Q slots for BRR inspired workouts. Well, one of my typical training routes goes right through HFT and from the light at Olive Chapel and Kelly Road to Kelly at Beaver Creek Commons appeared to be the perfect “halfpipe” if you will. Hills not Circles

Saw the Q-sheet was open and wanted to do a BRR-style Q with the added bonus of trolling the FMJ PAX on Slack for predictably “running in circles” at the track. Much respect to those guys I wouldn’t be able to keep up. The POGL has some awesome hills and a little bit of elevation checking on topographical maps pointed to my two favorites. Hinton St and W Moore St (aka Cemetery Hill). [Read More]

The Five Man Weave

After putting my name on the Q sheet last week I went back and forth trying to come up with a way to get the PAX moving between stations, without running, and while maintaining social distance. I settled on a three man weave, with a 2-man option if needed. As luck would have it Callahan ran a 3-man-weave Tuesday at FWD and it worked fairly well, so I thought I was good to go. [Read More]

Four Corner Burnout

It twas a great morning in the downtown part of Apex as (lucky number) 13 pax, including an FNG, showed up for a beatdown! YHC made sure to get there a few minutes ahead of schedule to make sure Google maps was still all it was cracked up to be.. as well as my memory.. So after the disclaimer was given and the pledge was recited, we were off! Warm up: [Read More]

A "Murph-ish" workout

This guy and Chanticleer for a little EC Bells were grabbed, instructions were given, running was questioned. **The Thang **Our workout was similar to a Murph in the sense that we ran a mile, did 3 exercises for a period of time, then finished with another mile. The 3 exercises were KB Merkin/Row combo; Goblet Squat; KB swing. We did sets of 5;10;15 respectively and repeated until we ran out of time. [Read More]

Merkins and Burpees

Signing up to Q is a good way to ensure that you’ll show up to the workout. YHC took the DAC Q spot this week to help prevent the Friday fart sack. Here is what we did: 5:30 time for the pledge and we were off! Warm up: Jog around the front parking lot and circle up. Had to switch it up from Monday! Can't Take It Anymore!

YHC saw the open slot on the Q sheet last week but realized it was the day after Tobacco Road, my first half marathon, and thought it might not be wise to sign up. Sunday afternoon rolled around and the sheet was still blank, and with no worse than slightly tender feet and sore quads, I thought, “eh, what the heck. I’ll probably fartsack otherwise.” 4:30 arrived with the unnerving punctuality that early Monday mornings tend to possess, and we were off to the races with plenty of time for me to sit in the truck and plan my Q. Step Up

These are strange times indeed. With the declaration of a global pandemic, due to COVID-19 infection, the world as we know it has changed. And will likely never be the same again. Our schools have closed, travel is quickly coming to a screeching halt, and may of the PAX and M’s who are accustomed to going to a job every day are being asked to work from home. Worse, due to the massive economic impact, some are losing their jobs. [Read More]

Inspired By Burt (that is not a typo)

Michelob and YHC for a little EC Posting at Bradford’s Ordinary yesterday I was “inspired” by Burt’s shared cluster Q. To the untrained eye, it may have seemed like he was unprepared but he was, in fact, helping to shape and invigorate. What, I’m not actually sure, but there was definitely shaping and invigorating going on. And it seemed to work. So I borrowed his lackadaisical Qing style and implemented it at DAC. [Read More]
