More than just a workout (Carpex Convergence)

Truth be told, YHC is feeling some pressure on this BB. But, in the words of a sage Carpex veteran: “Keep it vanilla and Q to the site.” - Carman Liuzzo, 57, Burt Wednesday, June 20th, will go down as an EPIC day in Carpex history. The menu looked like this: 0430 - 0500 HIMs launching for the 10.7 mile Maynard loop (14 by YHC’s count) 0505 HIMs launching for Insomnia, YHC on the route Q 0545 HIMs gather for SNS + Tortoises + Vesper convergence at Bond Park 0630 COT with 77 strong, followed by 2nd/3rd F fellowship and Chinese Downhill sharing this powerful and emotional story. Highway to the Construction Zone

I had a route all set and ready to go. YHC tends to leave the park for a roundabout journey as of late, so I was excited to walk it down, what with all the greenway closures in the area. I pulled up Strava just to review last week’s workout… and Rip beat me to the punch. And it was a more ambitious version of what I had scoped out on Google Maps, so here you go trash can, have a plan! [Read More]

53 and Counting

Since Angry Elf and I ceded our actual birthday Q to young Cap’n Hook, YHC grabbed the day after - the first full day at 53 years of age, and first full day at 43 for Angry Elf. Hello Kitty put out the word there would be an EC so I rolled in at 5:11. Upon seeing Largemouth and Chanticleer standing there, I almost kept driving. Luckily, Kitty was of the mindset and we took a nice 2-miler to warmup for what would become a tough morning. [Read More]

Still doing it Downtown Cary F3 Style

It was a big day in downtown Cary as 24 PAX gathered to celebrate the 4th anniversary of the premier downtown AO in Carpex. It was also conveniently enough YHC’s 4th anniversary in F3. Unfortunately, my co-FNGs on that faithful day, Ma Bell (traveling), Baby Face (moving), and Lab Rat (never to be seen again) were unavailable to join in the festivities. To honor the day and the OGQ Wonk (who did make a rare appearance in the gloom), we decided to pay homage to the first (yet to be named) BO workout. [Read More]

Tabata Tango

To celebrate the 420 holiday, I decided to forget it was 420 and not incorporate it into my Q. Darnit, missed opportunity. Instead, I laid out an ambitious plan to traverse the DZ soccer fields in a modified 4-corners, tabata style. But alas, the Town of Cary department of parks and recreation had other plans when they launched the sprinkler system to aptly moisten the pitch. You can imagine my dismay when I showed up nice and early for setup, fully equipped with cones and headlamp (more on that later). [Read More]

Jump Set Spike Rock

As Friday morning rolled around and my soreness from the SNS Q still sang its sweet chords up and down my quads, glutes and hamstrings, I realized that today may not be a good day for excessive leg work. A few of my fellow SNS PAX quickly agreed - thanks for the nudge Liverpool and Chanticleer. Luckily I was not without any ideas having pre-blasted some volleyball action at the DZ sand court. Deck of Danger...Zone, That Is

A PAX could be forgiven for thinking I was phoning in a second Q in as many days by bringing the US Playing Card Company Red Bicycle deck with me to Danger Zone this AM, but I planned several surprises to make this more than a mere deck of death. Its another variation on the Hamburger Helper theme of easy to run workouts. But don’t worry, all is forgiven Shut-In. Also, it’s not the first time someone has suggested I might not be able to adequately Q two workouts in a row (see “Don’t Sandbag Me Bro” to see how that went). Birthday Extravaganza and January 26 History Lesson

YHC’s birthday fell on a Friday this year so of course I was planning to Q the best AO in Carpex, on Friday, in North Cary. To my delight, Saban has the same birthday and the same plans. The Co-Q fix was in. 14 arrived, one was a FNG - 13 on time, Flip flop was late. Come on bro, as a future site-Q, you are going to have to tighten up. [Read More]

Who doesn't love Costco?

Monday. MLK Day. Roughly 20 degrees. Eager PAX huddled outside the park gates, awaiting the Q. 2 FNG’s quietly took in the MC. Disclaimer was presented and we are off. Warm Ups: Headed to the nearest parking lot on the left for warm up laps around the big pickle. 3 laps…Butt Kickers, High Knees, Mosey Roof Raises, Side Shuffles. Circled up for the traditional stretch…. Good mornings, SSH, Mountain Climbers all in perfect cadence: 15X Standard Merkins (OMD): 15X Plank Hold for a few 10 counts… The balmy morning was really hurting the PAX, not to mention it was Monday. Ab-stract

Ab-stract: existing in thought or as an idea but not having a physical or concrete existence. Fear and Trepidation- Gotta admit it fellas, SNS is like the Holy Grail (okay, wrong AO, that’s Flying Circus) of Carpex workouts (sorry DZ) to me. So much going on here on Wednesday mornings, that over the last 2.5 years YHC has been constantly growing more and more nervous about the possibility of ever Q’ing this site.
