Don't Be a D*ck

I have absolutely no idea what this means, but it had to be included. If I’m being honest I always thought MASH the TV show wasn’t very good. Maybe I’m just not an Alan Alda guy. But I really like MASH the AO. Mid 40’s with a light breeze. A beautiful morning for a workout. An even dozen surround what can only be described as a very interesting and/or aesthetically challenged shovel flag. [Read More]

Clockwork VQ at the Wild Wild West

My first post was at Lion’s Den on a Wednesday the week before Thanksgiving 2020, so I’ve been at F3 for a little over 3 months…and with 3 Q school sessions under my belt (shout-outs to Ma Bell, Disco Duck, and Red Ryder), I guess it was about time I tried my hand at Qing. Arrival and warmup When your Nantan pre-blasts a VQ, I guess 19 guys (and 1 canine) show up to set a new site record, even on a 33-degree Monday morning with chance of rain. [Read More]

Bear with me...

33 degrees, gloom, and a light mist greeted the men at Gran Torino today, and didn’t that was the weather that got FNG Back Porch out to his first post…at a High Tempo bootcamp. After a short mosey, we got loose with a pretty standard workflow of side-straddle hops, calf-stretch merkins, mountain climbers, hillbillies, and treadwindmills. Down the stretch we formed up into two lines for a bear run: back runner overtakes the leader, and after each cycle of runners drop to 10 bear crawls in cadence, twice around the double field. That's Ten Enough

We had 18 PAX gather this morning at Tortoises to celebrate my 4 year F3 anniversary. I’m not sure if many of them were there to support me or if it was the fact that is was pouring rain yesterday and its going to be chilly with light snow tomorrow. 45 degrees with heavy mumblechatter. With 5:30 approaching, we started with the Pledge. Its a great way to start the day, and an even better way to get everyones attention. [Read More]

Adventures in Apex

It was forecast to be very cold, but we braved only low thirties at Dante’s Peak on Friday. Seven HIM warmed up the area with a classic warm-up of Hillbillies, Imperial Walkers, Side-straddle Hop, Calf Stretches and of course Good Mornings. We moved immediately to a wonderful round of sevens with Burpees at the bottom and squats at the top of the hill offering brief chance for recovery. In the primary park parking lot, we made four rounds of four corners: Merkins, Freddy Mercury, Lunge (or jump lunch or, as Clockwork would have it double time quick feet), and jump squat. A "Respectable" Measure Twice

Only a “respect” for a week and here I am as the Q for a second time in the same month! Could this be the start of something crazy I start doing in my “old age’? We shall see. Thang 1: The Run South on Louis Stephens Drive West onto Morrisville Pkwy North onto Davis Drive West onto Morrisville Carpenter Road South on Louis Stevens Drive Thang 2: Brogra consisting of but not limited to the following: [Read More]

Is it Gran Torino or Grand Torino?

So admittedly in my mind I always think Gran Torino is Grand Torino. I have no idea why? Perhaps just a by-product of a quality PA public school education? Anyway, the quest to complete as much of the Carpex challenge as possible continued this morning at GT. While YHC has been battling an injury as of late, the doc said I couldn’t do anymore damage and I started out the week with a few 5 mile days, so why not just grab that open GT Q spot for another box checked. 50 is the new...

In celebration of YHC turning into a “Respect” — I was joined by 14 others, starting with call for FNG’s, and a very short disclaimer on F3. Pre-measure... then measure twice

Looking up stretches and yoga exercises last night, I realized that more “experts” (read: Runners World and similar publications) suggest that one should stretch BEFORE a run as much as AFTER. Yes with Measure Twice (and pretty much all other F3 workouts) what little stretching happens, happens after. Sure, there may be some SSH and GM’s for a warm up, but with most of the Hi-Tempo and Running workouts, that’s a rarity. [Read More]
