Welcome back to Ironpax

Weinke Admittedly YHC has only posted at Tortoises once prior to this Q. I am familiar with the site as it’s the closest AO to my house and have been to a Hell’s Bells or 2. Having never Qed a “limited run” workout before, I thought would could work better than an Ironpax inspired workout? Blocks are already on site so it was perfect. I blended weeks 2 and 4 for a special kind of suck. [Read More]

BRR Training 2021???

So it’s been a little while since YHC last Qed. Before BRR actually. Apparently I was still in BRR training mode when I devised the plan for today. That, coupled with how sore YHC is from back to back days of Iron Pax and low mileage for this point in the week I guess. Sorry to those that decided to follow me out there today, but hopefully you felt as though you received a proper beat down. [Read More]

Invigoration at WWW!

I’m feeling compelled to write more about this perfect word - INVIGORATE! As a VQ this morning, I humbly admit that I (jumped at the chance, but) did not come in completely and fully prepared to lead the HIM at WWW, but when it came time to provide the disclaimer to our FNG (Decal), invigorate was the important word that I remembered and emphasized. Merriam Webster provides this simple, yet profound (IMO) definition to the term; “to give life and energy to. [Read More]

Blue Ridge Relay 2020 Recap

Well, someone suggested it and it sounded like a great idea, so here’s YHC’s recap of his first Blue Ridge Relay. I’m a little long winded at times, so if anyone else decides to read this, sorry in advance. Heading out: Due to lack of child care, YHC was in charge of the 2.0 on Thursday when everyone was set to leave, meaning I was in the PM van. No big deal, since I was van 2 anyway and did not need to get up early. [Read More]

Not to disappoint...

Beige I get a little anxious when it comes to Qing “High Tempo” workouts. Will I get enough miles in? There’s a certain group of Pax among us that expect a certain mileage minimum for such workouts. But will there be enough variety for the rest of the Pax? Well, I attempted to come up with a plan that would appease all, but wouldn’t you know it, at 0530 that certain group was nowhere to be found anyway. [Read More]

Heaven is a Halfpipe

This backblast is a little late coming as it is from my birthday Q on 8/20, but as you get older you tend to forget things. Any way, as most are aware it’s BRR season and another HIM suggested those of us running the BRR should be sure to take all the open Q slots for BRR inspired workouts. Well, one of my typical training routes goes right through HFT and from the light at Olive Chapel and Kelly Road to Kelly at Beaver Creek Commons appeared to be the perfect “halfpipe” if you will. Tank Tops are Easy

Like all Thursdays, I woke up and grabbed my Pineapple tank top (it’s a real crowd pleaser) and headed out the door. As you know, Carpex Thursdays are of the tank top variety and in these peak heat and humid North Carolina mornings, they’re the next best thing to going full Headroom and rocking nips out. I rolled up to the flag early and was pumped to see HIM after HIM stroll in rocking their tank tops too. [Read More]

Merkins in the time of Blue Ridge

I have never seen “Love in the time of cholera”. Now there is “Love in the time of Corona”. Haven’t seen that either. But Friday at DP, we had something better. Arm work in the time of run-heavy Qs. But as with many workouts nowadays, this one started the night before with mindgames from Headroom. EC at 5am tomorrow. Let’s get in some miles!!! Headroom… circa 8pm Sure, sounds good. HC. Still Water Runs Deep, Bluewater Runs Far

QIC: Bluewater Lots of EC action, with Repeato announcing a launch at 0440 and Oofta at 0455. Warm-Up: Some much-appreciated stretches were mixed into the usual routine. Thing 1: Pearls on a String, up the Ederlee hill (twice) and around Regency Parkway to the rock pile. Thing 2: Partner rockwork dora (each Pax with his own rock). Curls, presses, tricep extensions. Mosey back to the flag (3.25 miles), Mary, have a nice day. [Read More]

One more lap

YHC was pleased to see 18 HIMs gather in the gloom for a mostly running workout. I realize the PAX like to incorporate all the major muscle groups so I incorporated a variety of exercises, but I really prefer running. Today we covered 2.8 miles around the parking lot, but next time we will take one more lap around the parking lot which should get us to 3. Disclaimer No FNGs, so standard disclaimer and Pledge of Allegiance. [Read More]
