It's called Winterfell for a reason!

Super frosty & icy morning in the Far Northeast Kingdom of CARPEX! Maybe it was the cold, maybe it was the over eating attributed to the Super Bowl, maybe it was the over drinking (SB)….. not really sure but the mumble chatter was high & the mosey was slow this fine morning. Here’s how it went down according to my recollection. No FNGs, start with the pledge, mosey back along school to the back where the buses are – painted some lines than circled up for some warm-up: [Read More]

Good teams set standards and goals, GREAT TEAMS are accountable for results

Beaker gave Ice Man the disclaimer, he was named at a Bible study, but this is his first post. Pledge then warmup: SSH, Imperial Walker, windmills, stretches. Accountability partner up. Mosey to Sweetwater and back with stops in route to do the following, P1 number reps first exercise while P2 continues second exercise, flapjac number X. Burpees/Low plank hold - 5 reps 4x Star jumps/Low Squat hold - 20 reps 4x [Read More]

Watch out for roots! This is Danger Zone.

Did everyone bring a headlight? Close enough. “Why did Coxswain say to bring headlight when he doesn’t have one on himself?” Que lights clipped onto my waist band like I’m Data in Goonies! Warm Up: Merkins (Yes, we started with merkins!) LBCs Imperial Walkers Good Mornings Side Straddle Hop more Merkins and then we’re off running Thang: Cross the street, not at a crosswalk, but there weren’t any cars coming so it was safe! Consistently DZ

There has been one constant in 2021 for YHC - DZ on Fridays with Saban. 3 for 3 so far! What better way to celebrate by hosting a classic DZ beatdown - no need to travel super far for this one. Gather up, no FNG, and also no Flag, so no Pledge. Disclaimer, Mission, Follow Me! Leave the park, take two lefts, and down Cary Parkway. Back into the park via the South entrance to the foot of bear crawl bridge. [Read More]

A-Team (6 Years Later)

The title of this backblast is a tip of the cap to Nabisco’s original backblast title “A-Team” six years ago. Just like his Q then, my Q today was flawlessly executed. 16 pax 6 years ago, 26 today (27 pax at COT having McCants join us - which is perfect as he was there 6 years ago with 75%) showed up to help YHC celebrate. I enjoy recreating this beatdown each year but with some modifications. [Read More]

Pee-wee's Big Adventure

Weather: clear, brisk 29 degrees. Scene at 5:43 a.m.: 16 dudes gathered around (a couple even performed Insomnia before the Main Event). YHC was standing in the center of the circle on his used-new Flip Flop door mat gifted from Burt. One of the 16 dudes was FNG Anthony, EH’d by Captain Kirk, who rode in on his 10 speed. There stood FNG Anthony; holding a water bottle, and dressed very warmly in 4 layers up top, and 3 layers down low (as you would if you just biked in 29 degree weather). [Read More]

50 is the new...

In celebration of YHC turning into a “Respect” — I was joined by 14 others, starting with call for FNG’s, and a very short disclaimer on F3. Turn to the flag for The Pledge Mozy to BB Court for warm up: Side Straddle Hops Sir Fazio Arm Circles Overhead Clap Good Mornings Thang 1: Mozy to the stairs & count off “ 1’s & 2’s” Round 1 1’s run the pickle, down the path and up the stairs while 2’s did merkins. The People's Champion

Davis Drive park has got to be one of the darkest places in an otherwise bright and somewhat beige world of Cary. Wait, is this where the Beige Bros got their name? Nevermind, I digress. It’s dark at Wolverine. Not too dark to know where to do pull-ups before the witching hour of 0530. It’s a busy Monday, with 17 PAX making the journey this morning. No FNGs, so a very abbreviated disclaimer was given. [Read More]

Searching for Bradford's Ordinary

Yesterday YHC did some research on Bradford’s Ordinary…the town. If you’ve been around Carpex a little while you’ve probably been asked “why is it called Bradford’s Ordinary?” so I thought maybe we could take a stroll to the historic site of BO and get our learn on… Well it doesn’t exist. In the 1700s there was an Inn owned by John Bradford called Bradford’s Ordinary and so this area was just called Bradford’s Ordinary. [Read More]

Flessenlikker

Lots of PAX got together this morning at SNS. By COT, the count was 22. Even more went elsewhere. Air Brooks was holding Court down at Point Break, Geek Squad pretended to have a birthday, Headroom continued checking boxes on the CARPEx Challenge and, hell, even Flenderson accidentally clicked into the Q sheet to sign up. But only eight were man enough to take to the diamond though. Having expertly introduced myself to the two PAX I had not previously met (and then promptly forgetting their names until basically COT), it was time for the Pledge as those with muscles only below their waist took off for an advertised 45 minute jog.
