Sometimes Vanilla is the Right Flavor

Ever since I attended my first themed workout, I knew that is the way I wanted to go when I started Q’ing. I believe it was a Hello Kitty Q themed on the college football playoffs, nothing fancy, but it was never the less, inspirational. However, a time comes in every man’s life where he has to embrace change and also that time was Sunday night where he hasn’t come up with a theme and needs to go to bed, hence my first vanilla Q. If the glove don't fit...

18 of Carpex’s finest HIMs arrived in the finally crisp fall morning hours at North Cary Park for a Doogie VQ adventure. Mumblechatter was at its finest with Burt in tow especially after I gave him free reign to speak his mind since he named me 4 months ago at Wolverine (spoiler alert). Unfortunately for Burt he needed to be reigned back in only a few minutes later… After a nice jog around the pickle we completed the following: [Read More]

Cherries and Pain Sticks

Pre-Blast This being my virgin Q and my first time at SNS, I truly appreciate all the support and advice from the PAX. Special thanks go to Angry Elf for the pep talk the night before and for planning the Thang with the pain sticks. I do wish I had made it to Q school. It is amazing how much I didn’t pick-up naturally from two months of just doing the workouts. [Read More]

Magic 8 Ball (Dice)

It was a calm, dark, and misty morning at Phoenix as I prepared for my (solo) virgin Q, it also kinda served as an unofficial “kickoff” of VQ week, which will officially begin on Monday. As expected the butterflies were stirring and the adrenaline was flowing, but I was definitely ready! By 6:25 a total of 18 pax were gathered and ready for the workout, and after an official welcome at 6:30, we were off jogging to the parking lot of the community center for warm ups. [Read More]

A Vanilla Birthday Bomb

I tried. Really, I did. I posted to Slack that it would be a workout devoid of anything interesting. There would be nothing to encourage anyone to show up. But people did anyway. 13 stalwarts with absolutely nothing else to do this morning yawned there way through an utterly vanilla workout. I was kinda hoping to stand around till 6 AM and then hit the Starbucks but at some point someone said, “Hey, is there anything going on in the park? Franklinaversary - 4th edition

On the last Monday in September in 2014, YHC was privileged to be an FNG at an A-Team workout. Today, YHC took the opportunity of his anniversary to repeat his inaugural F3 workout, this time as the Q, just as I did on the last Monday in September 2015, 2016 and 2017. Following the first time I participated in this workout (under the leadership of Denali), I couldn’t raise my arms above my head for 3 days and couldn’t walk properly for 6 days. [Read More]

No Mucking Way!

September 17, 2018 YHC was inspired last weekend. He spent Saturday prior running around in the mud in Denver for an MS charity. Knowing he had to figure plan a workout for the old crew on Wednesday AND that it rained a little bit in the area, inspiration quickly took hold. Not knowing exactly WHAT they were going to do, he definitely knew WHERE it was going to happen. There was even a PSA on the site AO days ahead of time. Slow. DOWN.

Occasionally, I like to sit on my porch and tell the kids (and defecating dogs) to stay off my lawn, to complain about the weather, reminisce about walking to school, upAndy, in the snow, both ways, and to yell at the cars to SLOW DOWN. That was the genesis of this workout. And, like almost any old man story, that is completely false. I actually realized about 1/7th of the way through Ma Bells ridiculous Hindenberg workout at FOD (the OG of Tuesday Carpex AOs) that my form was becoming exceedingly sloppy and rushed.
