The 2018 Odyssey: It’s a Journey, Not a Race

In CARPEX, we have a saying “if there’s no Back Blast then either it was a Riptide Q or it didn’t happen”. But the Odyssey did happen (I have the t-shirt to prove it) and so it must to go down into the annals of CARPEX so that someday future generations will read about it and ask themselves “What the #*@(#* were those morons thinking?!?!!” So what the #*@(#* were we thinking? So glad Saban wasn't there...

Wow - love these 530 starts 25 minutes away…. or not. However, it is always a pleasure to lead and this morning was know exception. We started with 15, ended with 15 and had 16 during our mid workout count o rama. Many people that I haven’t seen at all or in a while - that is why it is great to travel. YHC looked through the last several backblasts before his Q at FWD - and noted that they only seemed to a) go to the bridge, b) go across the road to the office park or c) run up and down the Cary Park hill - so my primary goal was to do something different. A trip to the zoo brought to you by the numbers 7 and 14

Nice warmer weather again this morning brought out 13 of Carpex’s finest to the premier skate park in SW Wake County. YHC tried to solicit some requests for the workout today - didn’t get much but decided to work in what I could 530 - time to start - a few still messing around at a truck trying to find a pair of gloves - so the rest of us went over there and did 1 burpee OYO to start. All aboard the Middle School Bus

A brisk cool morning greeted the kids waiting for the bus this morning on their way to Salem Middle School. The gathered in the parking lot and waited patiently for 5:30. Apparently, the bus driver (who was their early) wanted to protest the start time so we didn’t get moving until 5:31. Largemouth wondered if he was going to make everyone stand around until 5:45. While it seemed like a good idea…. The Mag Mile

A beautifully clear day at Wolverine. 5:30 in the morning - 50 degrees. Moon is clear and stars are out. Had an aggressive plan for this morning, but 31 PAX showed up for a beatdown, so I had to adjust. I had planned for a Track & Field event, but ended up with only the track - well, I have my next Q tee’d up. We ran The Magnificent Mile - Nicknamed “The Mag Mile”. The return of an old favorite

I pulled in to Tortoise Wednesday morning - excited to lead the men who are always slow and controlled with purpose. It has been a long time for me since I had visited tortoises but was excited to be back. There was a collection of normal activity as we gathered to begin the workout- some folks doing EC pullups and Frisco doing something stupid (apparently he lost another bet that required him to wear a weighted vest during the workout). A little name calling (and poo slinging) after some pre announced shoulder work

A brisk cold morning met us today as we disembarked from the toasty warm cars at Hells Bells this morning. What is that Snots and Squatter running in? and Pickles dressed for the summer? Seems like the Odyssey hangover was still in the air this morning. Promptly at 5:30 (yes Squatter, the Qs time piece is always correct), we did two slow laps around the pickle to try to get the blood flowing. [Read More]

Circumsack

30+ Pax found a way to get to Bond Park Senior Center today between the hours of 0430 and 0545. Some arrived that early for #TheMaynard, others a little later for #Insomnia, and picking up the 6 were those ready for a #Beatdown or a #Vesper run. For those that couldn’t make it a new(ish) F3 Lexicon word was discovered by YHC during a recent 43Feet podcast. Some guys faced certain circumstances; work, family, scheduling, issues and had to fartsack. Military Time

28 strong for a #TeamFOD Q this morning. YHC has now become used to 0530 (and soon to be 0515) workouts that upon arrival there was plenty of time to stretch. Pax started rolling in but, of course, none made an entrance like Burt…yes Burt was at FOD. I think for the first time since we tried to throw Callahan a surprise baby shower, so like what, 2-3 years ago!? Anyways he came in windows down mumblin his chatter BEFORE HE EVEN PARKED HIS CAR!
