You never forget your first time

…that’s kind of true, but when in doubt just reference the backblast. On May 10th, 2017 a dude named Dice showed up to SNS on the invite of his buddy Jamie. It was weird because all the guys were calling him “Repeato,” never the less, on a brisk (to me at the time) 54 degree morning I logged my first Carpex beatdown at the hands of a one “Earhart.” Hello Kitty was born and I’ve mildly gravitated to F3 activities… [Read More]

Shakin' not Stirred 4/25/18 Day 3 -- The '80's

The week of Smokey continues with the music of the ‘80’s. Joining us in the gloom were artists like Kenny Logins, Def Leppard, and Bon Jovi to name a few. 36 PAX were there for Vesper and SnS. 28 actually got to listen to the music. We began with a quick run around the parking lot to warm up in front of the senior center. Warm Up SSH Imperial Walkers [Read More]

MENSA Q

Here’s some maths knowledge for y’all - and why on Earth we would do anything as stupid (completely, utterly…?) as incorporate a Fibonacci sequence into a workout. For those of you who have been at this awhile, you may have experienced the Nautilus, a workout that starts at the center of something and spirals outward. A nautilus is a natural embodiment of the Golden Ratio, a mathematical expression that refers to the ratio of two addends to their sum and each other. BO 2 Yr Anniversary

BO was my first Carpex post, 4/28/16. MCants had the Q. He was so cool to me and made me feel part of the PAX immediately. 5:45rolled around and off we went, headed to school and did some warms up, 23 Merkins for Gibson. We then did so 4 corners work for Ma Bell, then we did some running work with Mary mixed in, then some dips and squats by the water fountain. [Read More]

Needle-scratch Moment

I’ve Q’d enough times (though not as much lately) that I’m not usually nervous beforehand. I was nervous today, anticipating the reaction of the PAX at what I had in store. Still, I had it on good authority that it was a worthy idea. Huh. Two minutes to go, FNG present, big PAX turnout, and aforementioned Good Authority nowhere to be seen. Well, let’s make the most of it. Warm-up Jog to Community Center lot. [Read More]

Tribute to the CHAMP

YHC got some sad news on Friday that one of my college buddies, Brian Champ, was admitted to ICU at UNC hospitals with a terminal condition. I went to visit him on Sunday morning and it really hit me hard to see him like this; knowing that barring a miracle, he would probably never wake up. It also troubled me a lot that we really hadn’t been in contact much over the past decade. [Read More]

The first one's free.

An early morning HIDA alert from YHC, Disco Duck, Water Wings and Snots for meeting in the FMJ Gloom a little early to knock out 100 Burpees. Why? Why not, I guess. Being that we’re team players… we saved a few for our F3 Brothers. The PAX arrive, it’s a 10-count to start, great to see Grease Monke…wait… where’s he going? Half, did he arrive safe and sound? OK, a 9-count for a H-E-L-L-O K-I-T-T-Y Q at the premier FREE Tuesday morning bootcamp in the 27523 zip code (more on the FREE part later). [Read More]

2nd Time Around

Shank put out the APB for a Q on Sunday night. YHC perused the work calendar for a moment, and heeded the call. I was set for my 2nd ever Q on Thursday at BO, but in retrospect I’m glad it came a couple of days early. Monday, being President’s Day, provided the rare opportunity to double dip for an AO survey and an outing with my 2.0. The last few weeks have been bittersweet on that front - my M is 36 and a half weeks along with our 2. [Read More]

Take My Breath Away

You know what makes a Q feel good? When that special someone says at the end of the workout, “That might have been the hardest workout I’ve ever done.” It really takes your breath away. Thanks Tubeless. 12 PAX gathered in the “snow"crest parking lot of Salem Park, whose students get to enjoy quite possibly the most ridiculous two hour delay ever, awaiting this so called “Lap of Pain” YHC promised. Vanilla on the rocks, with a splash of mist

Six men gathered in the purest of A-Team conditions: raining and 50 and a closed gate. Those of you who frequent A-Team know of what I say. Apex Cheddar Bo (since we now have an official Carpex Cheddar Bo) rarely shows up by 0545, and certainly not when God graces this earth with a cleansing rain. And man, that seems to happen about 3 out of every 4 A-Teams. With YHC’s knees aching from last week’s wind-sprint-o-rama at BH (courtesy of YHC’s ego), and with bone-on-bone Billy, a nice, leisurely pace was set for the warm-up.
