The 2018 Odyssey: It’s a Journey, Not a Race

In CARPEX, we have a saying “if there’s no Back Blast then either it was a Riptide Q or it didn’t happen”. But the Odyssey did happen (I have the t-shirt to prove it) and so it must to go down into the annals of CARPEX so that someday future generations will read about it and ask themselves “What the #*@(#* were those morons thinking?!?!!” So what the #*@(#* were we thinking? An Evening of Firsts

YHC has finally officially posted at all 21 AOs! (And right away it’s remembered Claymore is spankin new and so that number is changed to 20…either way it was a first time for YHC to post at Rush Hour, let alone Q. But with plenty of experience at BO “going in blind” wouldn’t be the way to describe it. A large sum of pax showed up for this one, 9 of us in all. [Read More]

Is it Begin or Exercise.... (it's exercise...)

So a little less than 5 Months ago in May, an overweight, really out of shape FNG wandered up to Rush Hour. I was welcomed warmly by Old Maid and Disco Duck, and Riptide showed up to lead the Pax at 17:45. We went to the parking deck and ran the stairs with pain sticks and baked on the top deck of the parking deck. Now I am less overweight and less out of shape so in honor of that work out we would not be going to the parking deck or getting close to pain sticks… [Read More]

Magic 8 Ball (Dice)

It was a calm, dark, and misty morning at Phoenix as I prepared for my (solo) virgin Q, it also kinda served as an unofficial “kickoff” of VQ week, which will officially begin on Monday. As expected the butterflies were stirring and the adrenaline was flowing, but I was definitely ready! By 6:25 a total of 18 pax were gathered and ready for the workout, and after an official welcome at 6:30, we were off jogging to the parking lot of the community center for warm ups. [Read More]

No Mucking Way!

September 17, 2018 YHC was inspired last weekend. He spent Saturday prior running around in the mud in Denver for an MS charity. Knowing he had to figure plan a workout for the old crew on Wednesday AND that it rained a little bit in the area, inspiration quickly took hold. Not knowing exactly WHAT they were going to do, he definitely knew WHERE it was going to happen. There was even a PSA on the site AO days ahead of time. Zen Zen Flex Again

17 HIM descended upon Phoenix for what YHC promised would be a very limited run workout, with a heavy dose of flexibility. We had 1 FNG, Liam from New Jersey, so a thorough and complete disclaimer was in order. Apparently YHC got a little bit loquacious, prompting Callahan to point to his watch, “6:31” and an indignant look of “let’s get on with it” on his face. So off we went. [Read More]
