Happy Burp-day!

Rolling down the road to Tortoises I get a message alert, “Where is everybody? Is Tortoises closed today?” I got to thinking, should’ve I pre-blasted my birthday celebration at Tortoises? I didn’t want to make people choose between a birthday celebration or the soft launch of Lion’s Den. I wanted to ensure the soft launch was a success for Red Ryder and Sour Mash, but did I underestimate the draw that the Lion’s Den would have? [Read More]

Diamonds Are Forever

Today was the last day of YHC’s 52nd year on this big blue ball, so what better way to send it out than a nice game of 52-pick up, kettle bell style! A few PAX narrowly avoided penalty burpees by sliding into the parking lot just as we launch. As it turns out, they’d get plenty of burpees later on. #foreshadowing Warm up Take a circle of the parking lot, the long way, stopping at the flag for the Pledge of Allegiance. [Read More]

You Had To Be There

At approximately 05:29, 11 PAX were patiently waiting for one more. One more, who had jumped at the opportunity to pick up a last minute Q due to the previous Q’s illness. This one more, who will remain un-named (rhymes with Noshowisco), allegedly had a sick 2.0 and would not make it. When Ezekiel asked if anyone wanted to pick up a last minute Q, Yogi and YHC spoke up simultaneously. [Read More]

Mathletics

Eleven HIMs gathered in the fairly well lit, narrow parking lot of Annie Jones Park expecting a limited-run boot camp workout. This is, in fact, what was to be delivered to said PAX. First exercise, the Pledge of Allegiance. In a well-disguised foreshadowing of things to come, a high knee/karaoke mosey to the lot next to the tennis courts for… Warm Up SSHs, Good Mornings, Moroccan Night Clubs, Overhead Claps, Plank Jacks & Control Freak Merkins. Changing of the Guard

It was a beautiful morning at Tortoises (the premier limited-run, maximum fun workout on Wednesdays in Apex). Two Friendly New Guys (FNGs) joined the PAX in the gloom this morning: Sega (who was being punished for forgetting to do his homework) and Matador (who was being punished for being friends with Frisco). For Your Humble Correspondent (YHC) (i.e., me, Frisco the Legend), the day started with Extra Credit Pullups (ECP) with Spartan and recently named (i. [Read More]

Running?! We don't need no stinkin' running!

I had so many witty things to say about Frisco and my competitive, can’t let things lie, defensive, out-to-prove-something nature that led me to Q Claymore. It’s inconvenient, unfamiliar, and starts at 0545. BUT, DANG-IT, I CAN Q WITHOUT RUNNING! However, we discussed “being known” beyond the superficial this morning, so I will try to live up to that. Here’s the snapshot of me circa 10pm on 05Feb2019: I am thoroughly exhausted after having worked 24 hours in the last 48 - after late nights in the lab on Saturday and Sunday; hoping I can make results by force of will and struggling to be a positive mentor/manager under the incredible stress of just needing s**t to work; coming home to an equally exhausted wife who has one child in bed early for punching his sister in the face, the second child in bed early with vomiting, and the third child (the punched sister) still up an hour and a half past bedtime clamoring for back rubs and screaming that she is having spooky, spooky, spooky, spooky, spooky, SPOOKY dreams (False - you’re not asleep) (UPDATE: M is now sleeping in her bed). Keep Your Eyes On The Road, Your Hands Upon The Wheel

It was a beautiful morning at Hells Bells during my first kettle bell Q. I know the guys at Wolverine miss my presence there the past few months, but I have really enjoyed mixing up workouts and incorporating kettle bells. Sub and Frisco arrived early for some ECP3. 12 dudes arrived, 5:30am hit on my wife’s watch, and we moseyed to the flag to Pledge our Allegiance, then… Warm-Up Moseyed the large pickle then circled up for: [Read More]

Fini-Q - Double Duty 11’s was the flavor of the day.

As you wish*

Well, a day passed, and so did a year. First post and Q of the new age, at the greatest AO in Downtown Apex on a Thursday morning. Tossed the notion of an EC run out there, and I was joined by the Site Q in training, Sub, and the craziest man in Carpex right now, @djvtec (who has just signed on as the sixth man, on the 6-man 2019 BRR team, aptly named F3 Carpex Pick up the Six (TM) (R). And I Thought No One Was Coming

YHC forgot this was the 4 year anniversary of Shut-In (1/5/15 officially) so last week finding an empty Q slot at HBs was perfect! YHC and The Joker did some ECPs while we waited for pax to show. I thought no one was coming but at 0525 the parade of headlights flooded the park. 15 pax were up and ready to go at 0530 for the disclaimer and pledge. Pax # 16 joined us after our loop around the pickle for warmup. [Read More]
