An Ode to Angry Elf

Two years ago today, YHC stumbled out of a slumber to visit Fred G. Bond Park in the heart of Cary. Known prior to that fateful day only as Kyle John Montgomery (save “Daddy” to a couple of kids, and “Skolnick” to a group of college buddies), this sad clown was drawn to a mysterious gathering of men, looking for a good workout…and an adventure. As soon as he jumped out of his car, he was welcomed with a warm yet equally obnoxious, “Hey, what are you doing here? [Read More]

Exicon DEF

Some of you know I am on a mission to go through the Exicon A-Z over the course of many workouts. Today, 16, took part in Exicon D, E & F. 4 came in strong for IronPAX. Warmup - Duck & weave (probably to never make another showing) 10 Daisy Pickers Thang 1 - Descending Deconstructed Double shot of jackees at each light pole. Perform the deconstructed jackees, decreasing by 1, and run to the back parking lot. [Read More]

Changing of the Guard

The time has come for the guard to change at Wolverine. Bogo and Pivot completed their time at the helm. They did and amazing job, continuing what Hi-Liter and Biner so graciously began two years ago. The workout and transition went something like this. Well, maybe it was a little more American. Maybe not quite that patriotic and brave. More like this. Yes, the workout today was based on the GHHS Color Guard conditioning routines which are set to music. [Read More]

Unexpected Hurdles

I’ve posted at a few other AOs, but I’ve mostly been coming out to Wolverine since I live right across the street. I’m definitely still learning the ropes and so when Pivot asked me to VQ I took the chance. I didn’t feel ready at all but I figured I’d better jump at the opportunity otherwise I’d never volunteer to do it. We had 20 PAX in attendance and there were no FNGs. [Read More]

It Looked Better On Paper

There is something interesting, something magical, that happens when you lead a group of men in the Gloom, but more on that later. My oh my, what an honor to VQ today. After a pledge of allegiance, 18 PAX moseyed up to the large pickle. Nature Boy, my trusty fall back in case I faltered in my inaugural Q, reminded me of the definition of Mosey. It is indeed not a saunter, and most definitely not a sprint. [Read More]

Parking Lot Tour

20 PAX gather in the gloomy and humid morning for a flashback Q for YHC. I have many fond memories of posting and Qing in this great site and was excited to bring some new faces some of my old-school, vanilla beatdown. Disclaimer and pledge done, we head around the parking lot and down the dark path to the street where we oval-up for: Warm Up Good Mornings Sir Fazio [Read More]

Two for the Price of One

YHC woke up and immediately checked the forecast. The predicted rain was GONE! 45 mins of rain, not a big deal. 90 mins of rain…a bit much. YHC also drove to the AO the day before to scout a rock pile spotted on Google Satellite (and DM’d Sub for recommended rock piles). The Google one was perfect so we were set! Upon arrival at TGM a cool breeze came as a shock. [Read More]

Pair Up in Groups of 3

Day 6 of Frisco’s Week of Terror(ible) Qs. Picking up the 6 is a big deal to me. When I started F3, I was 25 lbs heavier than I am now, facing down a Sad Clown life, and on the edge of being too out-of-shape to keep up with my 2.0. As I lumbered along I had those thoughts of “I can’t do this. I let myself get too out-of-shape” or “I’ll workout on my own for a while then come back when I can hang with these guys. [Read More]

BRR Training Barkley Style

The hills at Danger Zone are intense! Having done a few BRR training runs there last year, I knew it was time to get back. When I saw the open Q spot, it was a sign that I must share the love. YHC pre-blasted the plans Thursday on the Slacks, so everyone could see the big idea. I know that DZ is not a high tempo workout, but would resemble that on this day. [Read More]

The Bearded Murph

Pre-Blast 20 at #ao-tues-fwd on a swampy Tuesday morning in…were we still in Cary? Murph-like exercises were performed. The Warmup Pledge of Allegiance at the flag. Run toward the circle, weave the pylons, weave the concrete balls, one lap around the circle of Backwards Run, Karaoke left, Karaoke right. Circle up for: GM, WM, Calf Stretch, ‘Mericans, Plank Jacks, Mountain Climbers. The Thang Run toward the bridge. Stop half way for Prisoner Squats, ‘Mericans, and Remember-to-Count-with-the-Q Burpees. [Read More]
