Crazy(ish) Phoenix

Banjo hit the Pax with news of his trip to the IR and naturally YHC jumped on the chance to Q Carpex’s premiere AO on a Saturday morning. And with the boys headed out for Crazy Train, we had to get a good beatdown in, in their honor as well. Fellowship run at 0605 (sorry Chipper who had been waiting since 0545 chomping at the bit) and the rest of the Pax arrive on-time for a 0630 start. [Read More]

53 and Counting

Since Angry Elf and I ceded our actual birthday Q to young Cap’n Hook, YHC grabbed the day after - the first full day at 53 years of age, and first full day at 43 for Angry Elf. Hello Kitty put out the word there would be an EC so I rolled in at 5:11. Upon seeing Largemouth and Chanticleer standing there, I almost kept driving. Luckily, Kitty was of the mindset and we took a nice 2-miler to warmup for what would become a tough morning. [Read More]

Laying some Pipe with a Build-A-Bear VQ

30 Pax convened in the gloom, roughly 15 more than I expected. And they brought props! No, I did not tag everyone, and my apologies. Despite capturing the names immediately after COT, I have lost my notes. No FNG’s this day, let’s get started! Quick count-a-rama and we’re off to the Bocci parking lot at Kildaire and Lochmere for a warm-up! Run. Reflect. Get after it. Run some more.

With YHC prepping for a weekend away, and a late open Q at DZ (given some shifting Q’s), I jumped at the chance to Q at Northern Cary’s premiere AO on a Friday. Oh, what’s that Pet Sounds, you want to co-Q? Cool. Oh wait, it’s 0544… no Pet… nevermind. Never-the-less, 12 patriots showed up and these boys were looking fast AF in their red shirts. With that, we’re off and headed towards the Veteran’s Memorial (about 1 mile away). [Read More]

Do Your Best!

YHC was serving as Senior Patrol Leader today. As with F3, Scouts is a volunteer organization. Specifically, Boy Scouts is led by youth, giving them their first taste at organization, service, leadership, and sometimes humility. Today was a lesson in all four for YHC. It felt like herding cats to get the group to start moving, not unlike any Scouting activity. Trouble was finding four volunteers to serve as Patrol Leaders.
