The Plank

I’d run out of vacation time to get outta town and excuses not to VQ so here we are… Little did I know Dante’s would be hosting the Chipolte Qvergence in support of our brothers Liverpool and Water Wings trip to Peru. 43 HIMs posted on a fine spring morning in February, 3 FNGs taboot! Disclaimer and Pledge. Following the Dante’s Peak tradition we mosey down the circle for warm ups, we hardly fit… nice! [Read More]

FNGs Abound

The PAX recruiting game showed up strong on this A.M. as we had 3 FNGs make their way into the gloom. The Disclaimer was necessary. As I type this I am just now realizing I forgot to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. This is a priority and so I recognize now the men and women who go and have gone into harms way to protect the liberties that we as a United States of America hold as unalienable. [Read More]

Triple down celebrations

Feb 5th. 5/2. Fifth of February. So many reasons to celebrate……it’s the 36th day of 2019 (Gregorian calendar), it’s the start of the 4716th Chinese New Year (Year of pig) and it’s also Red Ryder’s M’s birthday, who I believe was turning 21 (approximately). With so much excitement to come, YHC started the customary countdown to the start of the beatdown at 3 minutes…..eventually the clock ticked down and we were ready to go…. [Read More]

Running off with The Circus

People go to the circus for myriad reasons: entertainment, witness the odd and curious, be stunned by magic, or savor a jalapeno-stuffed deep-fried twinkie burger. However, when it comes to The Flying Circus, only the stoutest of men dare show up to test their mettle within the Big Top. 14 PAX couldn’t resist The Circus’s allure, ignored the temps (they were so small that ignoring was easy), and performed incredible feats with the human body (I am mostly certain each PAX used his own). Half-Century Mountain

Upon checking the weather last night, I posed the ‘more PAX than degrees Fahrenheit challenge’ to the Twittersphere. This ended up being way closer a proposition than we thought it’d be! 25 > 22. With our strong crew of 8, take a lap around the parking lot, and venture into the park. Pause for a warmup consisting of 10 x GM (here comes Pivot) 1 penalty burpee 10 X IW [Read More]

And then there was rain...

So it rained. No, I mean it really rained. 10 waterproof HIDA’s, including both site Q’s and the shovel flag turned out for a swimming lesson and freshen up in the gloom. Beaker (or Biner, whatever) won the prize for most nonchalant warm up and was clearly more than up to whatever volume of water fell from the sky. As we circled up, the pax reached a consensus that the worlds weather apps were espousing lies - as to a man everyone was expecting a balmy 62 degrees yet it felt more like mid-30’s. [Read More]

It works 60% of the time. Every time.

26 PAX gathered at the flag, with rumors of a mysterious FNG who was nowhere to be seen. First exercise, the Pledge of Allegiance. Warm Up Mosey to the heart of Apex Community Park, the parking lot adjacent to the tennis courts. Along the way add in some butt kickers and karaoke. Circle up for a standard fare of SSHs, Good Mornings, Sir Fazio Arm Circles, Steve Earles, and Control Freak Merkins. [Read More]

The Legend of 44

15 HIMs joined me for my VQ on a cold, dark morning at the finest AO on a Thursday morning in NW Cary. After months of PAX asking if I owned a fruit stand, if my last name was Darling or if I accidentally forgot my F3 name (and received a girl’s name), today I shared the origins of Clementine, as well as a brief history on the Legend of 44 at Syracuse University (go Orange! The Dutch Skater

The call went out the night before for an EC run at 0500 and the following HIM showed up: Michelob, Chanticleer, Largemouth, Snots, Sub and YHC. Four miles later and with just 1 minute to spare before the bell rang at 0530, YHC asked for FNGs, heard no response and Moseyed to the other side of the school. On the way we enjoyed some High Knees, Butt Kickers and Karaoke. [Read More]
