My way to the DangerZone

Team RED DZ - Photo courtesy of Shut-In DangerZone was my first post, on Aug 23rd 2019, having done pretty much nothing active for 10 years. Today was my VQ. Thanks to everyone for your support over the past three months and to those who were able to post at DZ today! I’m fitter in body, mind and spirit thanks to you all. Warm up - Take my breath away [Read More]

Post Odyssey Krypto

If it’s after a weekend event that is likely to have worn the PAX out, it means YHC has signed up for the Kryptonite Q. Did the post-BBR Q last year & had signed up for the post-Carying Place Q this year as well. So nothing different this year with the Odyssey just behind us. A nice easy Krypto to bring the legs back is just up YHC’s alley. But then last night I got to worrying that with most of the guys avoiding Flip’s Krypto Q last week for relaxation with Franklin there could be a pent up demand for miles and miles. [Read More]

Plain Vanilla - Old School

Today is the day before the Odyssey. Poor planning had me in the Q spot. However, location was fantastic. Old school Danger Zone. Lots of work tomorrow so goal today was get the sweat on. Work hard but nothing that would put us out of commission for tomorrow. Old school style, old school crowd of 8. Glorious morning. Timekeeper Saban - 545 and we were off. 1.5 laps around the pickle - warm up. [Read More]

What's Your Kryptonite; part II

Well, YHC was at a conference since Friday, so my Slack time significantly decreased. But I see that Shut-In asked someone to Q for him on Friday. Guess he got nothing, so asked again Sunday, which I saw that night. YHC thought, “my goodness, hope Shutty is OK, he wouldn’t just not Q unless something is drastically wrong”. Nope, he just wanted to attend Franklin’s anniversary Q. pffft. big deal. Nah, just kidding Shut-In, you are a great man and ‘Mantan. BRR Training Barkley Style

The hills at Danger Zone are intense! Having done a few BRR training runs there last year, I knew it was time to get back. When I saw the open Q spot, it was a sign that I must share the love. YHC pre-blasted the plans Thursday on the Slacks, so everyone could see the big idea. I know that DZ is not a high tempo workout, but would resemble that on this day. [Read More]

The reward of a thing well done, is to have done it.

100% of the pax were committed to Extra Credit this am: Sub for 4 mile solo run, Free Lunch and Pierogi for 1+ mile EC run in from home, YHC for ECP. Well done men No extravagant plans today, more BRR inspiration. Pax mosey to bottom of Weston Oaks Court for various warmup exercises and stretches. YHC now remembers to start Strava. Backwards run up the hill and then run to the top of Bexley Bluff Lane for directions: [Read More]

148, 44, 54, 6, 3, 2

Angry Elf and YHC had it all planned out. Until 50 guys showed up at Danger Zone! Too many to take down into the bowels of the park. But we have a glorious field that fits 50 perfectly. Anyway, today was a big day. A day of numbers one might say. 6 - Carpex’ 6th Anniversary. Evidence shows the first Cary F3 workout occurred on 5/31/2013 at North Cary Park and was named Danger Zone. 5 Years Callahan

On this day five years ago, I started down a path I never thought I needed to go down. My friend David asked me to come work out with him and I obliged. I figured it might be a good way to network, since I was looking to expand my career opportunities. However, 55 minutes into the work out, I found myself hanging over a railing, peering out at the serene little lake in front of me, wondering just how much longer I could possibly hold back from spilling my guts into said little lake. Burtflop

Well, Ultimate Frisbee season started up, so posting to Carpex workouts has been limited by soreness and/or injuries. I haven’t posted in about 3 weeks, so I was pumped to take the Q at DangerZone this morning. Of course I was expecting to be greeted to a heroes welcome, or strut into the AO while a boombox is blasting the Welcome Back Kotter’s theme song. Nope, none of those happened. Instead the night before, Sabre is skeaning me for not having some sort of a Pre-Blast, Peeerogi is questioning my mobility to Q, and CK is DM’ing me constantly…with his only interest of bequeathing me with his old bicycle inner-tubes with advice to utilize said inner-tubes during the Q for resistance running “in case you can’t think of any exercises to do”.
