It's Just a Little Mist

With the promise of possibly the first meaningful rain in a few months, I thought I should remind all of our newer guys that we workout whether it’s hot or cold, rain or shine. I mean, you haven’t lived until you’ve worked out in a driving rain or snowstorm. So I posted it on one of the dozens of GroupMe channels. And though it was just a little mist (welcome as it was) apparently that kept some folks at home - or at the gym. [Read More]

Pet Rock

Pre-BB One of my spiritual fathers often reminds me: “When life feels heavy, you’re probably carrying something that God doesn’t want you to carry. When you don’t have grace for what you’re carrying, it feels like the weight of the world is on your shoulders.” I have walked through seasons of heaviness many, many times. Maybe you have too? When I’ve prayed into the source of the heaviness, I’ve discovered: unforgiveness toward others, a lack of trust in God, misalignment between my call and my vocation, and more. [Read More]

Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Tube Man

It was a surprisingly, yet welcome, coolish morning as 25 super-studs gathered up at Apex Nature Park. YHC was making my way around the PAX for the customary hand-shakes, fish bumps and, in today’s case, one FNG disclaimer. Glancing at the watch, it was 05:44:45. Let’s get after it. No time for 1 minute warning. Let’s get to work! First exercise is… Warm-up Salute merkins x 15 IC facing the shovel flag. [Read More]

8/24/17 Bear Shoulders

YHC was a little stiff from the long run Trifecta the day before, so 18 crepuscular PAX shouldered the weight of some shoulder work by bear crawling on the shoulder of the road at Bounty Hunters this morning! The warmup: Run around the ball field, circle up in the parking lot for some typical warm up stuff and some moderately random quantities. Made sure to include some Sir Fa(r)zio Arm Circles to get the shoulders warmed up. [Read More]

Paying the 540 Toll

14 HIM arrived at Tortoises this morning ready to pay the 540 toll. But this toll isn’t paid with money, it’s paid with sweat and effort and heart. Warm up One lap around the pickle, Imperial Walkers, Sir Fazio Arm Twirlies (both directions), Cotton Pickers. Thang Mosey over to the picnic tables for 24 merkins, 24 left-right step-ups, 24 dips, 24 squats and 24 LBCs. Repeat all five exercises, reducing the rep count by three each cycle. [Read More]

Eclipse Phenomena

30 stallions rolled up to Field of Dreams all abuzz about the event of the century yesterday. Of course, I’m referring to the eclipse which evoked all kinds of emotions in humans and weird behavior in animals. What weird things would it cause at FoD? 0545: Pleasantries over. Listen up! Warm-up First exercise is the standard Merkin x 15 IC Jog (mix of regular and backwards) up to upper parking lot by the Thomas Brooks entrance and circle up for [Read More]

Big Surprise!

25 PAX denied the fartsack Saturday morning to put in some hard work with their brothers. It was clear, low 70’s, and perfect #schweaty weather. YHC knew he was Q’ing Phoenix the entire week, but when M.Callahan was told of it Thursday evening, the plan needed to be changed. And since it was a surprise for YHC, it would be a surprise for all the PAX. YHC teased the PAX on twitter claiming that a world-class surprise would be revealed the last 15 minutes of the Saturday beatdown. [Read More]

Solar Eclipse!

Today is the day for the solar eclipse so I felt compelled to create a workout that was both challenging and fun, relating as much as I could to the special astrological day. 21 PAX gather in the humid, gloom day for the themed-event. We take off down the road in a mosey imitating, the sun and moon traversing the sky. We make it, after a backwards run up the hill, to the first eclipse over Oregon for: [Read More]

Rude Awakening

I was awoken by the 2.1 at 4:38am and after a quick diaper change I decided to look up who had the Q of Dante’s Peak this morning. Boy was I surprised to see that YHC had signed up (likely during another sleepless night). Time to rise to the occasion and make somebody sweat. 27 pax arrived for an early morning tour of Apex nature park. Warm-Up Hold that thought as 5, yes 5 pax arrived late. [Read More]
