Phoenix 4/28/18 -- 2010's

24 PAX came out for this workout that arose for the ashes like the AO’s namesake. Cary’s Spring Days limited access to all the places YHC wanted to use. After the Warm-ups, everything else was an improvisation. We jogged off to our usual warm-up spot which was now named the Purple Parking Lot. Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, and Beyonce among others started out with us. Unfortunately, the Respects in the group were not impressed. Slippery When Wet 4/27/18 -- The 2000's

12 PAX braved the weather for a 2000’s beat-down. Shakira, Lady Gaga, and Beyonce joined us on the trek though they were not favored by the PAX present. Nonetheless, YHC truly enjoys workouts better when the tunes are humming! Jog around the pickle to circle up for Warm-ups. Warm-ups Side Straddle Hop, Imperial Walkers, Good Mornings, Merkins, Mountain Climbers Jog to the baseball field. Thing 1 Partner up, 3 rounds of one partner either People’s Chair or Balls to the Wall the other partner bear crawls to 1st base, lunge to 2nd base, bear crawl to 3rd base, lunge home. [Read More]

Modify As Necessary

I love F3. Men coming from all walks of life, at all stages of fitness, to join other men in doing something that at its base is pretty stupid (workouts in all kinds of weather, partner anything, carrying logs, you get the picture), and making gains is downright impressive. However, it is the litany of examples of authentic manliness (not cliched machismo, but men rolling up their sleeves and fulfilling their God-given roles in their communities and families with perseverance and determination) that are a constant source of inspiration for me - and what has me hooked. Shakin' not Stirred 4/25/18 Day 3 -- The '80's

The week of Smokey continues with the music of the ‘80’s. Joining us in the gloom were artists like Kenny Logins, Def Leppard, and Bon Jovi to name a few. 36 PAX were there for Vesper and SnS. 28 actually got to listen to the music. We began with a quick run around the parking lot to warm up in front of the senior center. Warm Up SSH Imperial Walkers [Read More]

4/24/18: Let my inspiration flow..

YHC was feeling a little slow this morning, which usually means a ruck. But he was also feeling a bit sore in places important for rucking, so in the end, the fartsack won. If you haven’t been to BroGa over at NCMA on Monday mornings, it’s a nice change-of-pace. YHC has been an occasional participant along with CK. It’s a good way to recover from a long run on the weekend. [Read More]

"Time and tide wait for no man" - G. Chaucer

Additionally, time doesn’t wait for the Q either. And while I was well aware of the start time, once we started, I forgot we ended at 6:15, not 6:30. I’m going to blame it on the rain. It actually wan’t too bad this morning. Light drizzle, not heavy downpour and warmish temps. As you can imagine, nobody got dehydrated. It’s 5:30 so off we went. Light warm up jog to the loading dock where we: (reps are approximate) [Read More]

MENSA Q

Here’s some maths knowledge for y’all - and why on Earth we would do anything as stupid (completely, utterly…?) as incorporate a Fibonacci sequence into a workout. For those of you who have been at this awhile, you may have experienced the Nautilus, a workout that starts at the center of something and spirals outward. A nautilus is a natural embodiment of the Golden Ratio, a mathematical expression that refers to the ratio of two addends to their sum and each other. Apparently a cadence count over 4 confuses people.

Some might say it was this PAX’s Kryptonite. (see what I did there?) Warm Up Windmill, Imperial Walker, Steve Earle, SSH Thang 1 Circled up in a nice patch of grass for Absolution. This is an 8 count cadence. Starting in plank position to a groiner, down to chill cut, plank jack, then back up. Trying to keep the PAX together on this one seemed to be a challenge. Not to mention no one was counting except me, so I’m not even sure how many we did. [Read More]

Phoenix 2 Year Anniversary

Phoenix was my first Q site, I hope years later I did a slight better job. Nice cool morning and off we went at 6:30 Slow jog towards rock pile, few warm ups then we wrapped a rock and did some rock work, balls to the wall and peoples chair. Then we did some light pole work, and did a hill climb. Next was the Fry Daddy repeato of parking lot laps. [Read More]

Tabata Tango

To celebrate the 420 holiday, I decided to forget it was 420 and not incorporate it into my Q. Darnit, missed opportunity. Instead, I laid out an ambitious plan to traverse the DZ soccer fields in a modified 4-corners, tabata style. But alas, the Town of Cary department of parks and recreation had other plans when they launched the sprinkler system to aptly moisten the pitch. You can imagine my dismay when I showed up nice and early for setup, fully equipped with cones and headlamp (more on that later). [Read More]
