We Have Liftoff

15 gathered to get ready for the workout. YHC informed the pax of the plan to get a location where we could hopefully catch a glimpse of the SpaceX rocket. One FNG and the disclaimer given. Mosey towards the lake near Lochmere for a warm-up consisting of SSH, Good Mornings, Hillbillies, Merkins and Plankjacks Move down the street for Dips and Irkins at a location ideal to see the rocket [Read More]

Parental Advisory

Balmy 34 at Koka Booth at 0515. Cauliflower and Squatter for the impressive 0445 EC. 12 Pax for my second attempt at a gangster rap strength workout. No one was clamoring for this the first time around, but it was so famously interrupted that I wanted another chance to stick the landing. Mosey half-way to the rock pile. Quick warm-up. Mosey all the way to the rock pile. Choose a non-traveling rock. [Read More]

BREATHE!

Over on the Dark Side of Cary, 14 HIM were volun-told by YHC what to do at Kryptonite. We gathered at the flag and excitedly waited for the EC runners to arrive. Then we listened to Hermes talk about his 5k PR and how he was going to take it slow on the main event. Being the ever-benevolent Q, I agreed to keep it to a reasonable pace (or I just leveraged the moment to subtly admit how slow I am…) We celebrated leadership in our community by delegating a pearls-on-a-string workout to the PAX. Who am I?

Have been wanting to pull this Q out for a few weeks ever since my son’s confirmation retreat. Warm up: Mosey to the big Koka parking lot for GM, Abe Vigoda, SSH, IW, Merkins and Eye of the Needle stretches. Thang: Asked the PAX to think about the answer to the question: “who am I”. Took turns sharing our answers, with answer-appropriate workouts tossed in. In our group we had a hospital name (7x burpees), husband (24 years merkins), lawyer (99 problems LBCs), financial adviser (3 million dollars wolverines), a child of God (WWIIs), a literary and musical hero (star jumps) and a father. Snow Bowl

It’s Thursday, January 28, 2021, 4:45 am and it’s snowing. So what, let’s get out the door and MIAGD at BIB. On the way, roads are not slick at all which hopefully means more PAX will join the fun this morning. Gather, no FNG’s, so straight to the Pledge of Allegiance. Off for a short mosey. Did I say short , I meant almost a mile run mosey. Warmup -Good mornings [Read More]

Catching Largemouth

Last night, the Q slot for BiB opened up, so YHC volunteered to take the helm. I remembered a nearby segment from last year’s Hill Climb Challenge, so I built the workout around that. 15 total Pax today, including one FNG. TClaps to Farm Aid and Useful Engine for bringing out a friend. Thing Mosey around the lake. Warm-up: I called some unusual stuff that Build-a-Bear didn’t love. Pearls on a String Mosey through the greenway to Glade Park Road. [Read More]

New Home

This was the second of two ’late commit’ Qs by YHC on Sunday night, and for an easy reason. Good chance this could have been 3 scoop Qs, but I didn’t want to grab a Wednesday to leave that open for a Maynard or a Cleaver (which I proceeded to FS through anyways). Point Break was open, and the FWD-PB-SWW combo would have felt appropriate given upcoming circumstances. More on that in the NMS. [Read More]

Lost one before the turn

Pre-blast: IR friendly. QIC is nursing some foot stuff. Nothing major but trying to get to the point where I don’t feel tightness first thing in the morning. With that in mind, I scan the area - through Google Maps of course - and see there may be a nice trail leading from one of the parking lots out to Lochmere Lake. Looks like a nice short cut to cool views and some rocks. [Read More]

"Vanilla" Cold as Ice Workout

When the Q sheet was empty for Point Break on Tuesday, I looked at the forecast for Wednesday morning at 5 am and saw that it was going to be a balmy 29 degrees. I was sold on the Q. But what to do at Point Break, so many options. My only option was to run, run and run some more to keep warm. So that is what we did. Pretty “vanilla” workout for Carpex standards. [Read More]
