Shakin' not Stirred 4/25/18 Day 3 -- The '80's

The week of Smokey continues with the music of the ‘80’s. Joining us in the gloom were artists like Kenny Logins, Def Leppard, and Bon Jovi to name a few. 36 PAX were there for Vesper and SnS. 28 actually got to listen to the music. We began with a quick run around the parking lot to warm up in front of the senior center. Warm Up SSH Imperial Walkers [Read More]

Flirting with Disaster 4/24/18 Day 2 -- The '70's

The week of Smokey continues with the music of the 1970’s. Joining us on this rainy workout were Aerosmith, Kansas, Stevie Wonder, Ram Jam, and many more. The songs inspired both singing (well, you could call it singing) and chanting from the PAX. It was an experience though only 8 of us braved the weather to enjoy it. We started with a brief run to the front circle for warm ups. [Read More]

MENSA Q

Here’s some maths knowledge for y’all - and why on Earth we would do anything as stupid (completely, utterly…?) as incorporate a Fibonacci sequence into a workout. For those of you who have been at this awhile, you may have experienced the Nautilus, a workout that starts at the center of something and spirals outward. A nautilus is a natural embodiment of the Golden Ratio, a mathematical expression that refers to the ratio of two addends to their sum and each other. Apparently a cadence count over 4 confuses people.

Some might say it was this PAX’s Kryptonite. (see what I did there?) Warm Up Windmill, Imperial Walker, Steve Earle, SSH Thang 1 Circled up in a nice patch of grass for Absolution. This is an 8 count cadence. Starting in plank position to a groiner, down to chill cut, plank jack, then back up. Trying to keep the PAX together on this one seemed to be a challenge. Not to mention no one was counting except me, so I’m not even sure how many we did. [Read More]

Change is good

With our boy @callahan on the DL, we needed to ensure #ec-insomnia soldiered on. So, with a few quick keystrokes Tuesday night, YHC devised a new route I don’t think we’ve taken before; all the hills of the south side of Castalia. PAX of 9 for the run, 2 for the stationary effort, and off we go. Bye Large, Shawn D. Clair, and Denali…the rest of us settled in for a nice low-mid 8s pace, regrouping as needed (8:24, 8:16, 8:35, 8:24 mile splits). [Read More]

Estate Double 7s

Warm up SSH, HB, GM, Merkins, Plank Jacks Thang 1 Run to the Ederlee Hill and 2 push ups ladder at each light pole to the top of the hill. Then run over to Regency Estates. (I hope they don’t have a google alert on their name. All we are doing is running I swear!) Thang 2 Partner up for 7s up the back hill by the lit-up house. Partner clap merkins and bropees. [Read More]

Anniversary Kegger

April 10, 2018 It’s been one year since YHC first tasted the Gloom at FWD in April 2017, and YHC felt a little celebration was in order. But how best to mark the occasion with a touch of class and sophistication? Would the PAX prefer a tasteful platter of dry-roasted, unsalted, Whole-30-reminiscent almonds? Or mayhaps a pre-breakfast kegger? After unsuccessfully /polling the PAX on Slack (better watch your back @Slackbot) and then successfully polling the PAX on GroupMe (long may it reign), kegs beat almonds and YHC knows that the first rule of partying it to give the people what they want. Jump Set Spike Rock

As Friday morning rolled around and my soreness from the SNS Q still sang its sweet chords up and down my quads, glutes and hamstrings, I realized that today may not be a good day for excessive leg work. A few of my fellow SNS PAX quickly agreed - thanks for the nudge Liverpool and Chanticleer. Luckily I was not without any ideas having pre-blasted some volleyball action at the DZ sand court. A Pierogi Confession

To whit: I had not, to date, really tried to deliver a good ol’, shut yo’ mouth F3 beatdown so when the SNS Twitter handle kindly reminded YHC of the Q the next day, that’s what I vowed to try and do. If the other PAX feel even a small fraction as sore as I do this afternoon, success! Deck of Danger...Zone, That Is

A PAX could be forgiven for thinking I was phoning in a second Q in as many days by bringing the US Playing Card Company Red Bicycle deck with me to Danger Zone this AM, but I planned several surprises to make this more than a mere deck of death. Its another variation on the Hamburger Helper theme of easy to run workouts. But don’t worry, all is forgiven Shut-In. Also, it’s not the first time someone has suggested I might not be able to adequately Q two workouts in a row (see “Don’t Sandbag Me Bro” to see how that went).
