Turtles all the way down

To borrow from the G-File, welcome dear readers (including those who thought this BB was going to be about Sturgill Simpson or, much less likely, John Green’s book): Ever come across a book (or in this case a series of books) that you just wish you had come across earlier in life? That’s basically how I feel about Terry Pratchett and his Discworld Series. I first came across Pratchett’s series a few years ago on a trip to London where the bookshop in the airport is a frequent stop. [Read More]

Merkins and Burpees

Signing up to Q is a good way to ensure that you’ll show up to the workout. YHC took the DAC Q spot this week to help prevent the Friday fart sack. Here is what we did: 5:30 time for the pledge and we were off! Warm up: Jog around the front parking lot and circle up. Had to switch it up from Monday! SSH Good morning Windmills Imperial walkers Merkins Mountain Climbers Thing 1: [Read More]

Classic TV Land

I may have shared this before (probably with Cally for a The Muggo bit) so pardon the repetition. When I came to the US at seven years old, I knew somewhere between one and four words of English and my parents were only moderately more fluent. Lucky for me, this is a great country with great people, great teachers and great institutions of learning. And even greater television. I am pretty sure between the fall of 1983 and the summer of 1985, I watched 2,148 hours of television. [Read More]

Beat, but worth it.

Not sure if anyone reads the backblast any longer, but it is important to document what went down this morning at Dazed and Confused at Apex Community Park. YHC and Crimson arrived around 5:24 and found a light crowd. Hanson, Mohawk, and Revere came in from a jog around the lake and we found Bubba and then Kiwk Stop. With about 90 seconds to spare, Two Factor arrives from him OYO EC run. [Read More]

A Way Back

Today was my second day back in the Gloom and my first day Q-ing in it. I had stayed strong during the lockdown virtually posting with Traffic Cone 4-5 times a week. The rest of our shield lock fell off or went back to the gloom over time but we held strong until Memorial Day. After a pretty grueling Q before the holiday I decided to take a rest day. And that was when the wheels finally fell off. [Read More]

Coupons are our friend

I showed up to Tortoises not knowing who the Q was because no one signed up. As I waited for the PAX, I got worried there for a moment if it would be a no show because it was 0528. Then Hotty Toddy, Intimidator and Bubba rolls in just in the knick of time with the shovel flag. We got the F3-admin stuff out of the way and now it time for business. [Read More]

No Squats, No Booty???

Apparently this is a thing? When Carpex was set to re-open for business this week, YHC figured he better get on the Q sheet this week. What better AO than Dazed and Confused? Then we realized that the gates remain locked at Apex High School so the decision was made to move to the site of A-Team right down the road. Where YHC Qed on Monday. Hey, at least it was fresh in the mind! [Read More]

5-4-20 A-team Re-Launch Group 1

The Gloom Belongs to Us! 10 Pax showed up to re-launch A-team. YHC had the Q. Standard F3 disclaimer was recited, new disclaimers given to stay 6 feet apart and pax were instructed to be especially cautious of other any non-F3 people we may happen upon sharing our gloom. – The warm up: jog to the parking lot by the power lines, get in a big circle for some Good Mornings, Hill Billy’s, SSH, Merkins, Moutain Climbers, Sir Fazio Arm Circles and Circles Arm Fazio Sir. Momma Said Knock You Out

Having just passed over the #AO-Wed-LionsDen site Q duties over last week, YHC had already planned to start traveling a bit on Wednesdays. The first stop on the #retirement_tour was Tortoise. Or is it Tortoises? A few PAX were doing pull-ups early, then others started to roll in. Finally Yogi came rolling in. The PAX, having just been talking about proper social distancing, mentioned that Yogi was likely to just pull in close for a nice kiss. [Read More]

Can't Take It Anymore!

YHC saw the open slot on the Q sheet last week but realized it was the day after Tobacco Road, my first half marathon, and thought it might not be wise to sign up. Sunday afternoon rolled around and the sheet was still blank, and with no worse than slightly tender feet and sore quads, I thought, “eh, what the heck. I’ll probably fartsack otherwise.” 4:30 arrived with the unnerving punctuality that early Monday mornings tend to possess, and we were off to the races with plenty of time for me to sit in the truck and plan my Q.
