Some tea for Dora

Over 70 Pax showed up for the Odyssey only two days ago, and after six AO’s and 11.5 miles of total distance covered….rest assured there would be some sore pax by this morning. Would it be possible to hit a muscle group that wouldn’t be sore already? Let’s see….. Wait, what tha hell is this hard clear stuff on my windshield?!?!?! Frost?! Weather channel said 36 degrees!!!! After the truck warmed up enough to get that melted, I headed to the AO for a little EC Odyssey recovery run with Ollie. Military Time

28 strong for a #TeamFOD Q this morning. YHC has now become used to 0530 (and soon to be 0515) workouts that upon arrival there was plenty of time to stretch. Pax started rolling in but, of course, none made an entrance like Burt…yes Burt was at FOD. I think for the first time since we tried to throw Callahan a surprise baby shower, so like what, 2-3 years ago!? Anyways he came in windows down mumblin his chatter BEFORE HE EVEN PARKED HIS CAR! Sometimes Vanilla is the Right Flavor

Ever since I attended my first themed workout, I knew that is the way I wanted to go when I started Q’ing. I believe it was a Hello Kitty Q themed on the college football playoffs, nothing fancy, but it was never the less, inspirational. However, a time comes in every man’s life where he has to embrace change and also that time was Sunday night where he hasn’t come up with a theme and needs to go to bed, hence my first vanilla Q. Effort Drives Excellence

YHC was definitely a little anxious (yet confident) leading up to the VQ at F3 Carpex’s finest AO in downtown Apex, Bounty Hunters. Woke up extra early to mentally prepare and to make sure I knew how to use my wife’s watch (I hate watches) for the workout. I then headed to the skate park early only to find out Disco Duck beat me there. After a great pep talk, I moseyed around to ensure my plan would work while Disco Duck went to take a leak in the woods. I Did It All for the Koozie

They say good things come to those who wait. Who are they? The PAX? The Q? 24 gathered to find out for a VQ that was a long time coming. YHC awoke at 0420 for a 0530 VQ approx 4 minutes away. Alrighty then. Arrived early to off load the pain sticks and found FNG Daniel alone in the parking lot with his car and an empty black BMW. PAX piled in the small lot, disclaimer was given, and off we went. [Read More]

The Cheddar Beast

Excited and a tad nervous for VQ week and my VQ at A-Team. Call me obsessive compulsive but I made two scouting trips to the AO, one in the daytime and one 30 minutes before go time, just to make certain that what I saw in the daylight still worked in the gloom. Good news…it did. No FNG’s but just for practice (you talk’n ‘bout practice) gave the disclaimer speech and off we went with a goal of seeing the familiar parking lots in a little different light. Magic 8 Ball (Dice)

It was a calm, dark, and misty morning at Phoenix as I prepared for my (solo) virgin Q, it also kinda served as an unofficial “kickoff” of VQ week, which will officially begin on Monday. As expected the butterflies were stirring and the adrenaline was flowing, but I was definitely ready! By 6:25 a total of 18 pax were gathered and ready for the workout, and after an official welcome at 6:30, we were off jogging to the parking lot of the community center for warm ups. [Read More]

The Deplorables

As a reverse psychology trick, YHC posted in the Slack “deploring” PAX who were skeered of work not to come to Flying Circus. 17 of the strongest PAX in NW Cary showed up. 17 of whom I apparently deplore. Of course I meant to “implore” the skeeredy cats not to come. But whatever. 0545 rolled around and what happened next went something like this: Warm-Up Jog around the gate and down the stairs to the high jump pad at the near end of the football field on what is the finest warmup area in all of NW Cary on a Thursday morning, followed by the worst circle up in the history of F3. Prop-less. Vanilla.

Forget bananas, sprinkles, waffle cones, sauces (chocolate, caramel, or Nutella). Not even whipped cream or a cherry. Just a 2.5 gallon bucket of store-brand vanilla. After Parker needled me yesterday at Wolverine for bringing the sled (“I shouldn’t have been surprised that there was a sled hidden in the dark-er part of the AO, you always use props”…or something like that), I decided today would be just me, the PAX, and the AO. Tractor Pull

In the several years that I have been doing this thing we affectionately call a cult F3, one of its best features is how it thrusts you into such close proximity to some pretty remarkable men. Showing up day after day to this cult fellowship is the embodiment of the adage that if you want to be successful, identify successful people and follow their examples. Think about it, no other region that I’ve posted in (just Churham) even comes close to the number of kick-a$$ respects we host on any random weekday. [Read More]
