More than just a workout (Carpex Convergence)

Truth be told, YHC is feeling some pressure on this BB. But, in the words of a sage Carpex veteran: “Keep it vanilla and Q to the site.” - Carman Liuzzo, 57, Burt Wednesday, June 20th, will go down as an EPIC day in Carpex history. The menu looked like this: 0430 - 0500 HIMs launching for the 10.7 mile Maynard loop (14 by YHC’s count) 0505 HIMs launching for Insomnia, YHC on the route Q 0545 HIMs gather for SNS + Tortoises + Vesper convergence at Bond Park 0630 COT with 77 strong, followed by 2nd/3rd F fellowship and Chinese Downhill sharing this powerful and emotional story. A Hot and Humid Mess

When: June 11th, 2018 QIC: Earhart The PAX: Matlock, Billy, Ausfarht, Kubota, Pickles, Leprechaun, WWW, Katniss, Monkey Nut, YHC Earhart A Shelter Workout! When it rains on the Hell’s Bell’s, the workout moves into the shelter (who wants to swing around a wet kettlebell). And man was it hot and humid, even at oh-dark-30. Katniss coming in hot, guess he didn’t pay the toll. We head out and down to our favorite circle for: [Read More]

How not to make friends, by FNG Cataracts (that's plural)

The day before my Q at Hell’s Bells I asked the site Qs if running was discouraged. Neither Monkey Nut or Earhart responded, so I naturally assumed that meant running was a great idea. It’s not. I was instantly berated with a verbal assault from the first step. However, sticking to my plan, the later runs actually became a nice break from the punishing kettle bell workout we were experiencing. Crimson even thanked me for running and volunteered to run more if that meant he didn’t have to pick up his KB again. [Read More]

Kettle Bell Deck of Pain

It was a beautiful morning to get our body, mind, spirit right. YHC/QIC had a plan for some KB deck of pain. The pax did not know it yet but they were going to get some time to lead during the workout. Warm Up We moseyed to the circle area for to warm-up. GMs, Cotton pickers, Sir Fazio arm circles forward and back and some overhead claps. The Thang After the quick warm-up, we mosey back to the shelter to begin our routine. [Read More]

MENSA Q

Here’s some maths knowledge for y’all - and why on Earth we would do anything as stupid (completely, utterly…?) as incorporate a Fibonacci sequence into a workout. For those of you who have been at this awhile, you may have experienced the Nautilus, a workout that starts at the center of something and spirals outward. A nautilus is a natural embodiment of the Golden Ratio, a mathematical expression that refers to the ratio of two addends to their sum and each other. Needle-scratch Moment

I’ve Q’d enough times (though not as much lately) that I’m not usually nervous beforehand. I was nervous today, anticipating the reaction of the PAX at what I had in store. Still, I had it on good authority that it was a worthy idea. Huh. Two minutes to go, FNG present, big PAX turnout, and aforementioned Good Authority nowhere to be seen. Well, let’s make the most of it. Warm-up Jog to Community Center lot. [Read More]

Field Trip

Field trip day at Carpex’s premier Friday AO in the 27513 zip code. Little chitty-chat among the PAX to start, “Holy shnikies it’s windy. Is that a tail wind, Coney?” A quick disclaimer to FNG Nick and we’re headed out of the park and on the road towards the Veterans’ Memorial, because YHC has a half a Mary coming up and needs some miles before a LONG run manana w/ @mabellcarpex. Fifty-two pick-up

Sixteen HIM gathered in the A-Team gloom this morning to help YHC celebrate a 52nd lap around the sun. It was extra gloomy, but the temps were perfect. As anyone knows who has Q’d A-Team, it pays to have a plan A and a plan B, depending on what time CheddarBo rolls in to unlock the gate. 5:45 and no sign of him, so plan B is in effect. No FNGs, but YHC does a quick facsimile of the disclaimer anyway, and we’re off. [Read More]

Some Things Never Change

Prologue: extensive interviews took place with several OGs of Carpex to obtain information for the following epic story of Danger Zone. The history of the Danger Zone, the original Area of Operation in Carpex, runs deeeeeep. As fate, or faith, would have it…..the location for the greatest AO in the U.S.A was obvious. [There were a couple of other trials at other Cary locations: Walnut Street Park and Kids Together Park (site of current FWD), but North Cary Park ultimately was selected]. [Read More]
