The Making of A Champion

The idea for this workout just fell into my lap. On Tuesday, there was some debate on Slack about what it takes to be a champion. Some would posit that showing up and staying makes you a champion. YHC would posit that deciding to get up at butt crack of dawn to attend a workout and sticking around is laudable, but is just a prerequisite to becoming a champion. Since YHC is the QIC, YHC gets to decide what constitutes a champion. [Read More]

1stF #7 of 7 BD & F3’versary Q-week: What a Rucking great time with a lot of moisture.

Believe it or not, rucking was not one of those workouts I had in mind when I was developing the personal challenge and I’m so glad I used it as the pinnacle of the beatdowns. Don’t get me wrong, the other beatdowns is as it sounds, beatdowns! They were all a lot of fun to Q. What spurred the need to add rucking to the list of Q’s and to make it the pinnacle of my BD F3’versary Q week stemmed from the Rucking/F3/FIA Triple Down Convergence. [Read More]

1stF #5 of 6 BD & F3’versary Q-week: Larry got that Thang in the middle – 12 Days of Christmas.

BO holds a dear place in my heart because it was the 2ndpost I’ve done when I started in F3. Ma Bell was the Q and I got my introduction to the 12 Days of Christmas. 12 Days of Christmas is to spur happiness and gift giving. OH NO!!!! It provided pain and fatigue. I had to bring it back for the nostalgia it brings. 0545 start – I introduced my Co-Q Franklin who DM me earlier in the week to Co-Q because he had to fulfill the role at BO to complete his leadership challenge. 1stF #2 of 6 BD & F3’versary Q-week: Courir le Cornichon with some stuff in between

As I arrived at the Claymore, I thought I was going to be the first one there. I was wrong, Disco Duck was waiting. I didn’t just pull into the parking spot. I drove around the AO to get the lay of the land. DD gave me a perturbed look wondering what the hell is WWW doing. There is a method to my madness. As I drove around, all I can see is water everywhere … there was not a single dry spot. Viva la revolucion!

14 was the magic number in Carpex on Friday, and that’s how many PAX turned out at Danger Zone to end the work week. We started with a couple of laps around the pickle (what’s with all the running?) - then circled up for a quick warm-up including SSH, merkins, mountain climbers, imperial walkers and, since you can’t have a great day without them, good mornings. Another 3/4 lap around the pickle to the basketball court, and circle up. [Read More]

Miles for Merkins

YHC was excited about Gran Torino since it was announced. Not being a hi-tempo kinda guy, posting at this new hi-tempo workout presents a challenge, the kind of challenge YHC seeks. But leading the workout? That’s enough to make even a grizzled veteran a little anxious. The PAX are expecting a proper and thorough beatdown, so at 05:30 (by the QIC’s watch) we’re off. Warm-Up A quick pledge at the flag, and mosey safely across the street to the tennis park parking lot and circle up for side straddle hops, hillbillies, and the Disco Special, 10 burpees OYO. Thankful (especially for FNGs on Thanksgiving)

YHC is thankful for many things; my loving family, a full table this Thanksgiving, and a purpose-driven career. But, above all things, I’m thankful for the blessings of FNGs on Thanksgiving Day. More to come, but first: The annual Thanksgiving Convergence means the men of Carpex descend upon the finest AO in all the land, Bradford’s Ordinary, and this year the weather right-perfect for a proper beatdown. EC run waves launched at 0600 and 0630 (psst, Frisco showed up at 0538 texting YHC, “um when are we starting? [Read More]

Fired up for some Turkey!

Wednesday morning’s are always a high energy affair with Insomnia runners coming in and the Vesper and SNS crowd ready to kill it. Add to that the pre-holiday excitement, temps near freezing and anticipation of Kitty’s upcoming Thanksgiving extravaganza, New Year’s Eve in Times Square had nothing on the 34 gathered at the Senior Center this morning! At the crack of 5:45, the Vesper’s headed out to explore new trails and the SNS crowd got after it. [Read More]
