A Hard Rain's A Gonna Fall

The Steve showed a cloudy start to the day, but small chance of rain until later. The Steve was wrong. Nine PAX were at the flag when the clock struck 0530. A very short and poorly delivered disclaimer was given, then we started. Warm Up SSHs, then warm up mosey to Kelly Road Park for Sir Fazio arm circles, Seal claps, Steve Earles, and CF Merkins. Coupons are our friend

I showed up to Tortoises not knowing who the Q was because no one signed up. As I waited for the PAX, I got worried there for a moment if it would be a no show because it was 0528. Then Hotty Toddy, Intimidator and Bubba rolls in just in the knick of time with the shovel flag. We got the F3-admin stuff out of the way and now it time for business. [Read More]

Filling 45 minutes 3 minutes at a time

The major upside to this slow re-open is the opportunity to (relatively) last minute decide to Q previously never visited locations. Especially those that (usually) have Q-spots filled up months and months in advance. Point Break, an AO I know only as a result of the Waverly Wednesdays from a by-gone era, is one such location. I take it back…. there was that fantastic Daddy-Daughter Date-Night at Waverly last year. My daughter got dressed up in her tux, we had a fancy Chick-fil-A dinner, enjoyed a chair message and even ran into a few PAX. [Read More]

BLIMPS with a Twist

As we gathered this lovely humid morning in the FOD parking lot, a fresh face sauntered up and introduced himself as an FNG. Apparently @dirtybomb EH’d him, but declined to post himself. A little small talk, a slightly abridged disclaimer and we were off for a mosey, paint the lines and a quick warm up with side straddle hops, merkins, good mornings, and sir fazio’s. At the bottom of the hill I explained our blimp routine… [Read More]

Lion of Fallujah - Memorial Day Workout

Memorial Day 2020 - Normally there is a convergence in F3 Carpex but not this year thanks to COVID-19. Multiple workouts were held and @Theismann put out a call that all AO’s be Q’d by a Vet. That was a good idea and very appropriate. YHC started thinking about what hero would be honored. The quick and obvious choices were my FIL or his West Point classmate Nick Rowe (Five Years to Freedom - His story of being a Vietnam POW). [Read More]

Ma grunted a merkin

The negative impact of COVID-19 on travel is obvious. Fact is, in many respects, travel has overnight become something most people are avoiding like crazy. Hopefully not for ever but there’s definitely been a fair bit of upheaval: cancelled business trips, less inviting person trips, family “getting by” with video calls and summer plans going arse over tit. All in all, it sucks. Case in point, RDU saw more passengers on an average day in February than they did in all of April 2020. [Read More]
