Virtue of the bored

Punctuality is a key part of our culture here within F3 CARPEx. Case in point, we start on time, we end on time and we even have an official Region timekeeper: Saban. I am not aware of any other Regions that take punctuality so seriously. Even when Saban is not around, if a workout goes long, inevitably someone will mention Saban being unhappy. Suffice it to say, “Don’t be late” might as well be our subheader. [Read More]

A Day Late, but here we are! 10 Phoenicians showed up in the 30° chill to do some work on a Saturday. Here’s what we did: Pledge with the 2 Bruisers, and then follow me! Around the home pickle and out the North Side to Maury O’Dell, grab the path to the Community Center lot, back through to Metro Park Dr and hang a right to convene at Warmup Intersection for 8CGM, SSH, SM/PJ/SM, IW. Adventures in Apex

It was forecast to be very cold, but we braved only low thirties at Dante’s Peak on Friday. Seven HIM warmed up the area with a classic warm-up of Hillbillies, Imperial Walkers, Side-straddle Hop, Calf Stretches and of course Good Mornings. We moved immediately to a wonderful round of sevens with Burpees at the bottom and squats at the top of the hill offering brief chance for recovery. In the primary park parking lot, we made four rounds of four corners: Merkins, Freddy Mercury, Lunge (or jump lunch or, as Clockwork would have it double time quick feet), and jump squat. B.E.E.R.

The idea for this Q started a few weeks ago when Sooey preblasted something about not wanting to drink alone at Off the Rails the next morning. My degenerate brain took that to mean that he was planning to bring alcohol of some sort the following morning. Turns out Sooey just didn’t want to post alone on a cold morning, but the seed of a beer-themed workout started to grow. Then last week at Off the Rails, Sooey mentioned that story to Disco Duck who was equally enthusiastic about some sort of beer-themed workout. [Read More]

BLIMPS!!!

On Monday this week, Slim Shady made me a deal that if I Qed Lion’s Den, he would go ahead and get on the Q sheet for Wild Wild West. So here we are. I had thought about just running back last week’s Back In Black Q, but that seemed like cheating and then the M decided last night was a good time to take down the Christmas decorations, so I never did get a chance to put the thought I wanted to into the plan, but BLIMPS was close enough to last week so there it was. A-Team (6 Years Later)

The title of this backblast is a tip of the cap to Nabisco’s original backblast title “A-Team” six years ago. Just like his Q then, my Q today was flawlessly executed. 16 pax 6 years ago, 26 today (27 pax at COT having McCants join us - which is perfect as he was there 6 years ago with 75%) showed up to help YHC celebrate. I enjoy recreating this beatdown each year but with some modifications. [Read More]

Farewell 2020

The day was December 31st, the last day of the year 2020. Can’t remember a year before where so many people around the world were saying good riddance as they, anxiously, laid it to rest in its proverbial grave. Then vigorously covered it up with as much dirt as possible. While I agree that 2020 has been a very difficult and trying year in many ways, overall and overtime, I’m coming around to viewing 2020 from a different perspective. [Read More]

Baselines and backblasts

January 1. Symbolically speaking, a turning of a new leaf. And while most years are met with some degree of glee and dread, it’s pretty safe to say that the vast majority of us today are expecting much greater things from 2021 than 2020 gave us. So, with that in mind, today’s Dante’s Peak beatdown aimed to set new bars and improve on past glories. Warm-up: I have been working on getting a couple of guys from my son’s BSA troop out for months now and got a positive response last night from one of the dad’s about potentially joining us at DP this morning.
