50 is the new...

As seen in YHC’s front yard 50. 50 years old. Damn. I remember when my Dad turned 50. The next year, he retired. I am NOWHERE near being able to do that. I’ve been terrible at Qing and even posting in the past few months. Haven’t posted more than 3 days in a week in a long time. So, I put a challenge out to myself; Q every day during my respect birthday week. [Read More]

12 Ways that Year 2 Differed from Year 1

Following up on my 12 pieces of advice from last year’s f3versary backblast, I thought it might be fun to reflect on how things were different over this second year. To summarize, I would say focusing and finding my place was the theme for this past year. Q’d a lot more this year (30+), and am more comfortable, yet oddly perhaps less prepared, at leading. Wrote way fewer backblasts. Used to write one per workout. [Read More]

Shooting sparks and a deck of cards

23 and me. Oh wait. This isn’t a commercial for a DNA testing kit. This is a writeup for the workout that happened today. Take 2. 23 men joined YHC at Hells Bells to kick off GTFO week. It stand for Get The F**k Out. A challenge for the PAX at AO’s they don’t normally come to. We had a good mix of PAX who are HB regulars and some “visitors” who may not have been to Hells Bells or at least not a regular part of their workout journey. [Read More]

Winky Rewind

A strong group of strong men gathered in the gloom this morning at Bond Park. The morning drizzle was gloomy and glorious. It was a good thing the Q brought his winky, because his memory isn’t very good anymore. And it was a good thing the winky was laminated so it would stay dry. The size of the winky was spot on, even when folded in half. - mosey to hill by pavilion and planted flag [Read More]

F3 Carpex 6th Annual CSAUP, The Odyssey

93 PAX and 2.0’s descended on Downtown Cary for the 6th annual CARPEX Odyssey. Special thanks to Bogo and Badlands for doing the heavy lifting on the Q for this event, and to PetSounds for crushing the SAG Q and post-race 2nd F. Also thanks to all of the SAG support volunteers, Site Q’s, shirt designers, and inspirational musical selections. On to the workout…Rooney kicked us off with an opening prayer and then handed it off to Badlands for the warmup at the home of BO. [Read More]

GrowRuck 32: Neptune's Adventure

Four pax from Carpex attended GrowRuck Training Event (GTE) 32 this past weekend, dubbed Neptune’s Adventure, hosted by F3 Hampton Roads. For three of us, this was our first GTE. GTEs are F3 leadership development events that are run by a cadre of volunteer pax at the national level who have gone through specific training programs (and are often former military and/or medical personnel) that help them design an experience meant to push men to the point of failure so that they can learn more about how to accelerate themselves, others, and the Pax, people, and regions back home. DBB, Frisco

Q: Doogie PAX: Doogie, Frisco, MIA, Simmons With Carpex Culture month coming up I thought I would temporarily dust off an F3 tradition that has fallen by the wayside in our explosive growth: the Back-Blast. Yes I know those robot-generated things we use now have their uses, but sometimes I miss the full fledged, Take-a-seat-on-the-groan-throne-because-this-is-Frisco-Back-Blasts of yesteryear. —— Typically, the Q writes a Back Blast for a workout but since today that was Doogie and—as they say in Med school, “C = M.
