Plea to Patricia

We starfished the Carpex region recently. It was hard. Most of us came up under either Ma Bell, Parker, or that other guy. Some guys embraced it, some left, a lot of us protested. I was in the 3rd group for a while. For me, it was easy to “get lost in the shuffle” and stop coming out. A few guys noticed but a lot of guys I’ve known for years didn’t. [Read More]

NYC GORUCK HTL - 9/11 20th Anniversary

My rucking journey started in 2015, shortly after I started posting at F3. In my second or third week, I fell for the classic line “if you can do this, you can do…” which in this case was a GORUCK Tough custom event with F3 Raleigh. I was hooked, and have been taking on new challenges ever since. There are too many highlights to name, but some standouts include doing my first Heavy with Candlestick and Kanye, meeting Cadre Heath, Dan, and DS, and being part of the GrowRuck team and getting to give away some of the magic of F3 and rucking to other men. Gratitude at a 7

Yesterday was my first “run” since probably November at Dollywood (where I hurt my shoulder and had to stop any bootcamping at all and just stick to walking.) Rewind to 2 years ago. I was just coming off an EPIC Maynard 100, my first 50K, and tallying up 1200 miles for the 10yr #EndIt mission. My Strava was amazing. I was in “Peak Fitness”! 133! …Then due to me overusing my body, and lack of stretching and self-care, my hip flexors gave way and I was sidelined all last winter (and turned 40! [Read More]

A Day in the Life

7 at A-Team. 18 at DTP. 25!! at Lion’s Den. A little more manageable here at Bounty Hunters, where there was a STRONG Happy Dino contingent this morning. 21 total, with 11 bootcampers and 10 runners. 0530: As the pax arrived, I shared the news to some who had not heard, about the passing of an F3 Knoxville pax, Taylor Phelps (Cardinal) during his VQ the day before. One of his planned exercises (that he didn’t get to) was the “Air Bike” (Freddy Mercury). [Read More]

We'll take it from here, Cardinal

Early Thursday morning, YHC was stirring and came across the news of young Taylor Phelps, F3 Cardinal, out of Knoxville TN, who had horribly passed away during his Virgin Q (VQ) at a workout on 1/11/23. For Thursday’s workout, I incorporated one small element of his planned workout, 15 double count Freddy Mercury’s. We did them at the very end of our workout, and after the workout was over, I shared that his planned workout looked extremely hard, and I would be hesitant to try it. [Read More]

It's a Jungle at Lion's Den

7 at A-Team. 18 at DTP. 25!! at Lion’s Den. Difficult to scale, and I’m learning a lot still. 0530: Several mallwalkers and motherruckers out with the bootcampers this morning. An EC runner or two.All assembled, no FNGs, lots of familiar faces, Pledge of Allegiance, statement that we’ll keep pretty close to the flag, and we immediately have to move (too many pax for the first exercise). First was a follow-me to the coziest spot in Peak City for some Good Mornings (missed you Big Red). [Read More]

When are we going to start disturbing the peace?

So, Day 1 at A-Team was a nice intimate pax of 4 for the bootcamp, 3 for some ruck/walking. Day 2 was no such luxury. About 17 or so converged on the subfreezing temperatures in the very center of the Peak City. YHC fought a slow defroster to arrive with about 5 minutes before go-time. Feeble old eyes couldn’t make out the shovel flag, but the pax took joy in pointing out the HUGE flag at the fire station. [Read More]
