We'll take it from here, Cardinal

Early Thursday morning, YHC was stirring and came across the news of young Taylor Phelps, F3 Cardinal, out of Knoxville TN, who had horribly passed away during his Virgin Q (VQ) at a workout on 1/11/23. For Thursday’s workout, I incorporated one small element of his planned workout, 15 double count Freddy Mercury’s. We did them at the very end of our workout, and after the workout was over, I shared that his planned workout looked extremely hard, and I would be hesitant to try it. [Read More]

When are we going to start disturbing the peace?

So, Day 1 at A-Team was a nice intimate pax of 4 for the bootcamp, 3 for some ruck/walking. Day 2 was no such luxury. About 17 or so converged on the subfreezing temperatures in the very center of the Peak City. YHC fought a slow defroster to arrive with about 5 minutes before go-time. Feeble old eyes couldn’t make out the shovel flag, but the pax took joy in pointing out the HUGE flag at the fire station. [Read More]

F3 Carpex 6th Annual CSAUP, The Odyssey

93 PAX and 2.0’s descended on Downtown Cary for the 6th annual CARPEX Odyssey. Special thanks to Bogo and Badlands for doing the heavy lifting on the Q for this event, and to PetSounds for crushing the SAG Q and post-race 2nd F. Also thanks to all of the SAG support volunteers, Site Q’s, shirt designers, and inspirational musical selections. On to the workout…Rooney kicked us off with an opening prayer and then handed it off to Badlands for the warmup at the home of BO. [Read More]

Hard like Beskar

Well. It’s been a week. After a rare day off work last Friday, and having such a blast with a spelling bee at Danger Zone, I remembered how fun it is to Q. You never realize how bad you are at being a Q until you don’t do it for a long time, then try to jump back in the ring. DZ was a little different; I had a plan, and willing pax, and it was an out-and-back…what could go wrong? [Read More]

The Non Convergence Experience

Seeing the Q slot open a few weeks earlier and realizing I was still in need of said AO Q slot for the “box checking”, I eagerly entered my name onto the Q-Sheet. As the days passed, I then realized that the day in question was good ole Thanksgiving. Reaching out to Site-Qs.. the decision was made to stay open giving the PAX another option. With that said – and after a brief EC and no FNG’s in sight, we started with The Pledge… and [Read More]

Thou Shalt Not Cadence Count...

Today is my birthday. I turned 55. The rules say I have to Q and we have to do Triple Nickels, presumably because we don’t have Double Nickels so here we are. I do not make the rules. I am bound by precedent. A small brightly lit mob of EC runners joined a comfortable number of PAX who happened to wander in to Slippery When Wet. After a brief introduction and the Pledge of Allegiance we were off… [Read More]

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

And it was ushered in by perfect gloom temps of approximately 68 degrees. For the PAX who decided to wake up this morning and head to the most galactic of AOs in all of Carpex this side of Tatooine, not only were they greeted with amazing weather, they got to start their day with a beatdown of collegiate football caliber (kind of). After all, with college football kicking off today, it was only fitting (and YHC always leads at least 2 football-themed beatdowns per season to commemorate summer camp season and kickoff). A Quiet FWD

A calmness and cool 66 degrees captivated 10 apparently groggy HIM this morning at FWD. With no mumble chatter apparent, I gave a brief disclaimer, and we then started with The Pledge. Mozy up and behind the shopping center to the large parking lot for warm ups. Good Mornings SSH Sir Fazio Arm Circles / reverse Seal Claps Overhead claps Merkins Calf Stretches / Runners stretch Mozy to Corner of lot for Thang 1: 4 Corners [Read More]

Leg Day, All Day

It’s A Team and this is my backblast. Pledge of Allegiance then… Warm Up Mosey to the parking lot by the tennis courts. Circle up for Sir Fazio arm circles, Overhead claps, Steve Earles, and some runners/calf/hamstring/hip stretching. All the Thangs First, go to the traffic circle by the picnic area. Partner up. Partner 1 does El Capitan around the circle. Partner 2 runs around the opposite direction. Each time you meet, 10 merkins and then switch. [Read More]

Balls, Balls, Balls, and Towels

The Back Story Now that I have my first Q under my belt and celebrated my birthday taboot, it was time to commemorate three years of me being a part of this great thing we call Carpex. Three years ago, Sosa’s diligence in EH’ing me for months (seriously) finally paid off and I showed up to Thomas Brooks Park for my first post. Red Ryder was the Q that day at Field of Dreams.
