A Day in the Life

7 at A-Team. 18 at DTP. 25!! at Lion’s Den. A little more manageable here at Bounty Hunters, where there was a STRONG Happy Dino contingent this morning. 21 total, with 11 bootcampers and 10 runners. 0530: As the pax arrived, I shared the news to some who had not heard, about the passing of an F3 Knoxville pax, Taylor Phelps (Cardinal) during his VQ the day before. One of his planned exercises (that he didn’t get to) was the “Air Bike” (Freddy Mercury). [Read More]

It's a Jungle at Lion's Den

7 at A-Team. 18 at DTP. 25!! at Lion’s Den. Difficult to scale, and I’m learning a lot still. 0530: Several mallwalkers and motherruckers out with the bootcampers this morning. An EC runner or two.All assembled, no FNGs, lots of familiar faces, Pledge of Allegiance, statement that we’ll keep pretty close to the flag, and we immediately have to move (too many pax for the first exercise). First was a follow-me to the coziest spot in Peak City for some Good Mornings (missed you Big Red). [Read More]

F3 Carpex 6th Annual CSAUP, The Odyssey

93 PAX and 2.0’s descended on Downtown Cary for the 6th annual CARPEX Odyssey. Special thanks to Bogo and Badlands for doing the heavy lifting on the Q for this event, and to PetSounds for crushing the SAG Q and post-race 2nd F. Also thanks to all of the SAG support volunteers, Site Q’s, shirt designers, and inspirational musical selections. On to the workout…Rooney kicked us off with an opening prayer and then handed it off to Badlands for the warmup at the home of BO. [Read More]

Smoking the Smoky Mountain Relay 2022

For the first time, Carpex sent two 9-man teams to the Smoky Mountain Relay. Coincidentally, this was the first year that SMR had a 9-man division, and perhaps less coincidentally, the Carpex teams took 1st and 2nd place in that division. We’re going to cover a lot of ground in this backblast, from the teams, their experiences, the course, to a comparison with the perennial favorite Blue Ridge Relay (BRR), so buckle up, because this is going to be a bumpier ride than the “100% paved” abandoned Nantahala wilderness road of Leg 26! Kettlebell & Coffee on a Monday Morning!

Looking to wrap up the year stronger than I started I felt it was time to lift heavy things with a group of 23 others HIM. That along with the promise for some trunk coffee and perhaps the need to check off a few last boxes brought me out to Hells Bell’s this AM YHC gave disclaimer, searched for FNGS and with non present we started with the pledge then mozy the pickle and starting with [Read More]

BaROCK OB.O.M.B.S.a

OK, this workout had nothing to do with our former President. But it involved B.O.M.B.S with rocks so there you have it. YHC thinks the title is clever. You will come to love it as well. Anyway, even after YHC got a little anxious and stepped in the site Q’s lane by pre-blasting my Q, 20 HIM showed up, including an FNG who had no idea what he was getting himself into. [Read More]

Moisture Is The Essence

AO: The Green Mile Workout Date: 08/14/21 An hour and a half long workout in the middle of Summer sounds like a great plan! We took multiple hydration breaks. Water is important, just ask the guy getting electrocuted in The Green Mile. Warm Up: State the mission, check for FNGs(0), and give the disclaimer. Warm Up exercises Main Event: 1) 7-11s (Elevens of WW1s and Burpees with 7 Burpees each pass through the middle) in the big parking lot [Read More]

Your M Will Thank Me Later

Preamble Sometime on Tuesday, as I was contemplating my posts for the rest of the week, a message appeared out of the blue that the HFT QIC slot for Thursday was open. YHC jumped on it and…Boom! Thursday plan solved! Then sometime on Wednesday, Buzz Cut messaged me something to the effect of “I don’t know you; can I count on you actually Qing my site?” Right question, wrong PAX to ask. Circles on the Green

AO: Gran Torino Workout Date: 07/30/21 I got to witness Gran Torino from afar when I Q’d Rolling Stone back in May. Those fellas got in some serious mileage just doing laps in the parking lot. I’ve been putting off my Q, waiting until I was “ready.” How many times have we said/heard that at F3? I was originally scheduled to Q Crazy Ivan today but got unintentionally bumped off the Q Sheet there for Q Swap Week. [Read More]

Clock, block, and rock work

Inspired earlier in the week by Hermes’ rule [1], YHC grabbed the Q yesterday morning, and then was unexpectedly roped into 3 separate happy hours (2 liquor-themed, 1 beer) that afternoon (all virtual, MADD can rest assured) so planning time consisted of waking up, throwing on some clothes, and the 10-min drive in. Theismann was already there doing pull-ups. Earhart showed up looking like a teenager with a serious case of bedhead. [Read More]
